Is it my imagination or does the mk2 feel 'thinner' than the mk1? The bodywork just seems flimsier.

The MK2 is just a more modern design... pretty much all motor companies now use high strength materials to build vehicles ( like bake hardened boron steel sheet ), the higher strength means thinner material can be used which reduces the vehicle weight - which saves fuel every trip.

And despite lighter weight modern vehicles are stronger and safer than ever - see this thread.

Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

that's also what I thought. I have a 2026 MK4 Jazz and while I was just washing the car I was wondering if the bodywork, the panels, doors and stuff were made out of some synthetic material. It feels like some kind of plastic material. Or maybe like tin cans they use for softdrinks/soda. But apparently it is very thin steel.

I noticed that some of the rubber around the rear window is already breaking off. I will try to get this fixed as part of the warranty. But will do this probably in March when I have my first mandatory maintenance.
