Lockdown
« on: March 26, 2020, 02:52:03 PM »
Locally the lockdown is having a very positive effect. The streets are almost deserted and there are very few cars about
The supermarkets are quiet but not fully stocked locally in south Lincolnshire.
There was a police presence stopping cars locally yesterday but the police officers were not wearing masks apparently and were bending down to talk to drivers so no two metre distancing.
I am appalled at reports of people deliberately breathing and spitting on members of the emergency services, however they were arrested for committing assault and could get six months in the nick. The reports of ambulances having their tyres slashed and Asda grocery delivery vans being set on fire tells you what kind of society we live in and I find it very disturbing. It smacks of civil unrest.

Personally I think some of these yobs should be made an example off.
Give them a dose of Covid 19 and no treatment, or even better cut something off!

I watched the police talking to drivers this morning but they told them to wind up their window before moving in to talk to them. The two police officers were, however, patrolling in the one car.

I agree that would certainly grab there attention, a quick surgical nip would do the trick.

They are now charging people who cough at police officers, hospital staff and shop workers and they are processing them quickly and jailing them. The DPP say they will take necessary action.

My wife and I drove over to Danderhall today, to take groceries to her 95-year-old mother. I could not get over how quiet the roads were. Edinburgh City bypass is a dual carriageway that normally has two lanes of solid traffic. Today it was one lane in each direction, of well spaced out traffic. Most of the traffic was composed of HGVs and vans. I have never seen as many heavies on the road on a Saturday.
What I could not get over were the buses. Everyone I saw was empty, even the interurban coaches. My wife said will they take the buses off but I pointed out than many people need buses to go to work and go shopping.

One bus (or train) can't carry many people if they try to apply the social distancing rules.

I agree, but it would appear no one is using the buses around here at all.

With hints that the Lockdown may be eased more high street shops are considering re-opening while applying social distancing and using the 'one out one in' principle.
Can you imagine the situation with all the queues intermingling and fighting for space on the pavement social distancing will be impossible to comply with.
Our local high street is bad enough now with the queues starting at the shop door, spreading across the pavement and extending down the kerb thereby blocking the pavement.
