High Miles - What Grade Oil?
« on: November 04, 2019, 03:30:13 AM »
Hi,

I have been using a fully synthetic 10w 40 in our 09 Jazz (300k km) with great success, it is not burning any oil at all.

Curious to know what everyone else is running..

Cheers,

I have a change for before or trip so may try the correct grade. A person in the states with 500k miles on their car is still using 5w oil.

Now at 187,000 + km (117 k miles) on 5 - 30 fully synthetic and haven't had to add a drop in 10,000 miles.

Or is it? What do you think?

The key is to use the correct spec oil and change the Honda oil filter every 7.5k miles or 1yr which ever comes around 1st

I change mine about 12,000 miles, at its annual service.

Twice a year fully synthetic 5w30. In spring i do it with an oil pump, and at the end of October it is done at the garage together with a new oil filter and the other things needed.

I have a 2014 1.2 S Air-con which I bought from a local Honda dealer in April 2016 with 28k miles on the clock, 3.5 years later it has now done 78k miles.

I've always taken it back to the Honda dealer for servicing every 12.5k, they use 0W-20. I get at least 55 mpg and it never uses a drop of oil. The car has 15" Honda alloys with 175/65 Michelin Energy tyres.

For now, I will stick with the 0W-20.

With a young engine I would happily use 0w-20 but mine is 13 years old and has done 120,000 miles. I have AVERAGED 55.3 calculated mpg (not dashboard display), for the three and a half years and 30+ thousand miles I have owned it.

Yes, agree, it depends on the age of the engine. It seems 0w-20 is recommended from about 2011 onwards and can give between 0.5 and 2% better fuel economy.

Mine is the average MPG as well, albeit from the dashboard display but I can get 60mpg average with steady use in the warmer months. Most of my driving is on the M4 motorway across South Wales.
