Honda Jazz Jerking
« on: March 20, 2018, 04:52:39 PM »
Hi All...... :D

So I recently bought my wife a 2005 Honda Jazz... all it had was a slight shudder on the pull away.

So I did a service on the motor and at the same time drained the gearbox oil and replace it with Honda CVT Gearbox oil, bought directly from Honda, and the shudder was gone. Now the car is jerking while driving.... :(

Don't know if it is the gearbox or if it is on the motor.

Has anyone come across a problem like this?

What is the fix?

How many miles since the cvt fluid change? It should be changed every 25,000 miles. If the fluid hadn't been changed for a long time before you did it there might still be some of the old fluid left in the gearbox, so maybe do a second fluid change??

Thanks for the reply.... :)

Honestly speaking, I don't know when last the gearbox fluid was changed... So I changed the gearbox fluid and done the "Stall Test".

Reverse gear goes smoothly to 2500rpm........ Neutral is fine at 2500rpm however when doing this in Drive it is almost like the car misfires 2 or 3 times but then goes to 2500rpm.

The car has also stalled whilst driving(complete loss of power and the engine lights come on)

I have tried driving it with the paddle shift and when keeping the revs at and above 3500rpm, that car moves with out any issues.... lol

......but hey i cant expect my wife to drive that way.... lol

If you're not sure of the history, it might be worth changing the eight sparkplugs  and cleaning out the EGR valve - both issues are known to causes jerkiness and stalling at low revs, and the plugs other random misfires.

The rear set of four sparkplugs are sometimes 'missed' during garage services.

Hi Guys..I have also bought a honda jazz 1.4 auto 2004..this also slightly jerks when i start to drive (the jerk/shudder stops after around 10-15 mph)..the car only has around 41,000 miles on it..seems very clean in and out but this jerk is concerning me..! (i test drove a few other jazz's and similar thing was happening..)
I don't know when it was serviced or when the cvt fluid was changed..(probably never..!)
1) Is is like a design fault in the honda cvt system? 2) Do i have to change the cvt fluid asap? and get a full service only  or both? ...The car does not stall or anything and generally drives very well...
PS I HOPE THE GEARBOX IS NOT KNACKERED..!!! (NEED SOME HOPE GUYS...) I HAVE HEARD SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THE AUTOMATIC AS THEY HAVE GEARBOX ISSUES..! :(

can bad spark plugs also cause low rev jerking in a manual gearbox?

I would change the fluid.

I don't think the CVT box is any worse than any other automatic, and better than many, but you will have problems if the maintenance is neglected.

Yes, the same things apply to the manual gearbox - spark plugs and sticking EGR valve. In fact, out of the two, EGR valve problems are probably more likely.

Definitely worth changing rear spark plugs as they rarely get changed by garages or owners,  and GD had 'standard' plugs good for 20,000 or so miles, (GE and later got Iridium plugs good for 60 to 70,000 miles)   they are not visible and no-one expects a car to have 8 plugs.

Also EGR cleaning worth a go, easy to unplug and get valve off (watch out for gasket) - if car has done low local miles and never really been revved (the EGR only opens at higher revs) the shaft can get crudded up and when it does open it may not be able to close again,  then at low revs it is like having an air leak in inlet manifold, which messes up the fuelling.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

At the risk of asking a stupid question (nuthin new there then) .
I've got a mk1 cvt Jazz , are all 8 spark plugs the same , or is it 2 sets of 4 ? If that makes sense ?
Think I've got an egr fault . A misfire when going from overrun to power , worse when hot . So I was planning to try clean it out this weekend . But I'm open to suggestions ?

All the 8 plugs are the same, NGK BKR6E-11, Denso K20PR-U11, or equivalent.

Symptoms for the EGR and worn rear plugs in particular are similar, so it is worth doing both if your first choice doesn't fix it. There are plenty of how-to type threads for both, so I won't bore you with that.

By the way, there is no such thing as a stupid question. If you don't know, you don't know - and if you don't ask, you will never learn anything.

Honda Jazz Shudder when pulling away OIL Change OR Starter CLutch
« Reply #13 on: December 15, 2019, 04:50:49 AM »
Hi All,

I am trying to figure out if the problem I have is for the oil or the clutch.

some garages have quoted for oil change while others for starter clutch.

The car doesn't shudder in the morning or when it has rested for a while.
Starts and moves perfect for the first 10 minutes.
However, judders when pulling away after 10-15 minutes of driving.

Can you help if you had similar issues, and any way to find out if it's the clutch or oil change that it requires.

dont want to be spending money on it, too old to spend any on it, bought it for learning, but giving me other lessons with it for free.

Thanks
