For the first week or so I played with the paddles and S mode. Shortly after the novelty had worn off, I left it in D and forgot about it.
The system seems to make a better job of selecting the right ratios than I do.

Yes, point taken and probably true of many CVT owners, but it's still there if the need arises or the fancy takes you to use it again, it's nice to have the option?

Yes it is nice to have the option to play, plus the ultra low ratio which might come in useful in winter.

I agree, after another week with the car, I find no use for the paddles (except going down a steep hill), but I do find a use for S mode. I slip it into S mode temporarily in situations like waiting to accelerate into a gap of fast moving traffic, waiting to overtake. Then back to D mode.

I've had my Jazz a few days now and getting used to the differences after 2 1/2+ years with the MINI.
Did my first long trip yesterday, 176 miles to B'ham and back, quite impressed with the quietness and relative refinement cruising on the motorway.
Have used the manual selection paddles a couple of times now, but mostly use 'fully auto' mode.
Now at work for a couple of days so using it for commuting, that'll give me a more direct comparison with the MINI ::).
