Jazz 1.2 Elegance 2010 90 HP - fragile white paint.

Hello,

I am a happy owner of a Jazz 1.2 with 90 HP. The car was bought brand new in 2010.
The issue is the white paint, very delicate and fragile especially on the hood. Small bits of paint and splinters come off very easily. This is rather dissapointing. Even my previous Fiat was better...

All the rest is just great, but how will the car be after 10 years?

I have just wrote an email to Honda Italy, lets see.

Is it the clear top coat that is flaking, or some of the pigmented paint?   Has there been any chemical fallout over the car (although I would assume if so, it would have affected the whole car, not just the bonnet)

just the thin top coat. The paint looks like a singlelayer.

No chemical fallout.

Japanese cars normally have softer paint than European cars.

By the way, we never had white until the Hybrid came about last year.

As Richard pointed out, the paint on Honda are notorious for being thin

I'm also disappointed with the paint. Although I've already replaced the hood once (hit a deer), it's in a bad condition again.

I frankly believe that a thicker layer of paint would be of no harm to Honda's expenses.

The bonnet on my storm silver GE isn't doing too well after 25K miles with bits of paint flaking off due to stone chips. These chips are much worse than what I ever experienced with my two previous silver GDs.

Fortunately the car being silver they are not as noticeable as they would have been if it were in red (unless milano red is a tougher paint).

I'm also running a white one and was disturbed to see a couple of chips after only a month of ownership. Seems it's common to lots of cars these days thanks to modern paint formulations and the drive to minimise costs by skimping on the paint. As you say, a thicker coat wouldn't go amiss.

Meanwhile I'll use a lot of wax and try to avoid the flying stones. Not so easy in a country where 30% of the road system is made of gravel

In North of Italy lot of salt is spread on streets during winter.

This will be a great catalist for rust.
