Making the main screen swivel?
« on: September 28, 2025, 01:41:19 PM »
It seems odd that the main 9" screen faces straight back rather than towards the driver. Has anyone modded it to make it swivel so that it's normally facing the driver but can be rotated so that the passenger can use it? I haven't looked into it (I don't have a Jazz yet) but I can't imagine it would be very hard once you work out how it is attached?

The central screen (and the driver dash screen) are both very clearly readable from the passenger seat so have no worries on that front.  No need to swivel either screen, or head!

Yes, it doesn't seem to be a problem, just a mod that I thought might be useful.

Not so easy... finding a solution to a non-existent problem...

Chinese car maker BYD fit infotainment screens that can rotate between landscape and portrait. It is often regarded as a gimmick.

But that gimmick works well if you use the screen for navigation: just set it vertically (portrait):

Many of the tests I've read tend to leave the screen in one position or the other after the initial novelty/showing off to passengers factor has worn off.

I prefer to have my satnav set with  'direction of travel' always to the top .A screen orientated to portrait would show further ahead.    But no big deal, and certainly wouldnt influence my choice of car. But all other things being equal its a gimmick that may tip the balance for a few.

I think its illegal for an infotainment screen to show TV, Movies, games etc if its visible to the driver.  Any swivel angle that would allow only the front passenger to view them would be quite severe, and require software that  provides TV etc, but only when the screen is angled.  Not sure if it exists.  Without the ability to show movies TV etc   there is no point in having an angled screen as the  passenger can see and use the existing screen easily

Why does anyone buy a BYD vehicle?  I wouldn't - theyll depreciate like a stone, plus we are one political issue away from no spare parts.  You probably get a lot for your money, but still would never tempt me i don't think

No need to make the Jazz screen swivel in my view.  If the front seets could swivel to the rear, now that would be interesting!  Not whilst driving of course  8)
