0W-20 or 0W30?
« on: June 14, 2024, 08:02:32 PM »
What oil should I be using for a 2009 Jazz EX with the L13Z1 1.34 engine?

I’ve owned the car just over a year now and serviced it twice. Will be doing it again in a couple weeks.

Something I noticed though was when I bought the Honda service pack through cox motor parts the oil was 0W-20.

However about 6 months later I then got a valve adjustment done at Cardiff Honda. I also just got them to do an oil change while the car was there, I noticed on my receipt they used 0W-30.
My understanding is that 0W-20 is better for colder climates but I’ve seen people say that the UK doesn’t get cold enough for it to matter and 0W-30 can offer better protection.

I’m not that bothered about fuel economy, just prolonging the life of the engine. Which would be the best oil to use?

If you look in the owners book it will show the different grades suitable. As Madas says, either will be fine.

My Jazz lives on 5w30 A5 spec oil. I tend to buy via trusted Ebay stores and a brand I know of. Recently Ford Castrol Magnatec A5 5W-30 from Ford UK at just £6.50 L. Quality at a good price eBay item number:393363266809.
