New Jazz on the way
« on: December 07, 2023, 04:50:09 PM »
Our 09 iShift has been written off and we have ordered a new Jazz for early Jan delivery. I know I could real all of the topics here, but I am a lazy sod, so any hints tips and things I should know would be most gratefully received.

While you're waiting, download the online manual, comfy chair job, and note the page numbers of any settings you want to check or change

You can't ask questions about things you're not aware of
Let's be careful out there !

As well as down loading the online manual and reading it repeatedly,   search on YouTube under " Honda Jazz Handover"  . Dealerships have made helpful videos.  There is one made in 2020 but there may be updates for later model years.

Dont be intimidated by the number  of high tech clever tricks. It can be useful to master as many as possible, but the minimum required for driving the car dont take long to learn. You can take your time with the rest.

If its delivered in January dont be disappointed if mpg is not as good as you had hoped  .Its still better than most cars can manage, and improves significantly  as the weather warms up.

Thanks all, yes I have already downloaded the manual and wondered if I have mistakenly got the one for the ISS  :o

Very good point, and something to wile away the hours until it arrives.

A few things in the manual can be completely skipped

There is a large section covering seat belts and how to install a child car seat ........ I skipped that, must have saved 40 pages :)

LOL What about the section about not putting your mouth around the exhaust pipe when the engine is running?   :P

Lots of stating the obvious I guess, but thats like all modern manuals no matter the product

Yes I’m with Lord V in that I haven’t really read most of it ! I did look up where the oil pressure warming light was on the mini dash - it’s covered by a flash up message for low oil level and low oil pressure so expect it bongs as well !

Also download the separate navigation manual. There are some things that aren't included in the manuals but don't worry, most are explained on this forum.

I have done so, but as I have NEVER used a SatNag I expect it will remain mostly unread and keep on using maps  8)

Well forget the built-in Satnav and connect your phone to use Apple or Google maps. The built-in Garmin has no live traffic, perfect to take you straight into the back of a traffic jam. A major unacceptable omission by Honda in my opinion

Never used satnag of any type? :o   I would be literally lost  without mine  ,despite any shortcomings.  They are invaluable for finding your way  through an unfamiliar town, and finding  locations  where you might have to follow contrary one ways streets etc.   Safer too as you can concentrate more on other traffic and make decisive  turns etc. Confused drivers, bewildered ,dithering , unsure where they need to go  and getting increasingly stressed  can be a real menace.
Also helps with rural locations where a postal address is too vague to be of much help.    As with other driver aids you need to remain in control and use  common sense at times rather than blindly following  its every 'command'  .

Unless your driving rarely takes you into unfamiliar locations you really are missing out on a useful aid.   They do take a little bit of getting used to.   My wife has not much experience following satnav whilst driving.
