...My A/c lasted 5 years before a new condenser? was required. That was on all the time and lasted for over 70,000mls.

My auto button has a light on it so the OP can take that as a/c on.

I never though so many posts could be written and so much time spent on the subject of whether a small light should come on or not!  :-X :o
Apparently Honda got a batch of condensers with a manufacturing fault which were used on the Mk 4 Jazz and many have had to go back for replacements (as told by my dealership)

I have had 7 new Honda’s all with I am sure auto climate control. Apart from adjusting temperature, and leaving them on permanently in Auto, never had a problem, except one failed condenser at 5 years old and covered by the extended warranty. I have never felt the need to require further info.

Thank you all for your inputs. I think I'll do like Whiteshark and others and leave it on Auto all year round.

Yes, mine was replaced last week. 2020 Jazz EX (70 registration), so 3 years old.

You know you're not "required" to read and/or need to reply to postings that somehow managed to go against your gist?
I never meant to offend anyone! - I am simply a "burnt VAG child" completely new to the Honda world of satisfied longtime customers (and very glad about being part of it now!)

So, please do have patience with me and other newcomers and our "whims"!

...Your question was answered.
Auto is a/c on (and it has it's own light!) There was no need to keep going.

The easiest thing to do, for me at least, is almost never use auto. I choose an appropriate temp and stick with it until it needs changing. **Auto isn't going to know when I want it warmer or cooler or fan speed changing...**

I'm not sure in what context you mean by 'against my gist'  :-\ but you are free to post questions and I'm free to respond.
You're not offending anyone AFAIK so don't worry about that.

How different is the world of auto a/c in a VAG product then?

I've always just left it on auto and never had any issues

In winter it does help protect the seals and still produces a drying effect

I run 22C in winter and 20C in summer
Let's be careful out there !

Actually there was.  Once you discuss that its advisable to run A/C periodically, even in winter, the fact  the A/C button doesnt light up becomes more concerning. I have assumed that leaving it on auto will occasionally start the compressor, but dont know for sure  how often it actually does so  at cold temperatures  , if at all.

I regret my earlier comment  that you dont really need to know.

...If you leave a/c on then there is no 'periodically'.
If auto is also on then there is also no 'periodically'? (and it has it's own light if the light is that important to poeple.)
As others have mentioned there are safeguards in place for it not to run when Honda deem it unsafe.
I'm not sure what other bases can be covered??

Ah  , but I have read that A/C  compressor  should be run at least once a month, even in winter.  Once a month is 'periodically'.   If it  typically gets more use than this  its job done and I agree its no longer needed 'periodically'.   Thats assuming auto Mode  really does start the compressor  at least once a month.    How do you know for sure?

TBH I dont really worry whether it does or not.    I had a Yaris and a Corsa where the A/C lasted at least 12 years without  regassing and I took no special precautions to run it regularly. . So auto should be fine .

...I don't understand those people that have to REMEMBER to switch on the a/c once a month to avoid things going bad.
I think whether you use Auto or not, a/c should be on all the time, it feels as though that is what was intended by the manufacturer (although there is an off button  ;) ;D  :o)

And here is the problem: Can we really believe that A/C is on in AUTO without A/C light on..?
