Iridium spark plugs for 2008 jazz ?
« on: December 08, 2016, 08:59:01 PM »
I've been reading that iridium plugs can improve mpg and engine power. Has anyone used iridium plugs for 2008 Jazz ? Looked at NGK website,
BKR6E-11 recommend Nickel and BKR6EIX-11 iridium seems to have same spec.

Iridium certainly last a lot longer than normal plugs and may improve starting, but not convinced how they can improve power and mpg. All the iridium does is resist erosion by the spark, which means the gap stays the right size and won't open up like a normal plug.

Make sure thread is nickel plated (it is on NGK) or you may find that after 70K you can't get them out because thread has seized.

Expensive as you will need 8 of them.

I'd suggest changing them at half the recomended interval with std plugs is a better option so that the gaps are maintained will maintain performance plus it gives you the opportunity to see if there are any issues from the colour of them.

I've tried iridium plugs in quite a few performance cars and to be honest not noticed any difference and gone back to OEM recomended plugs which always seem better at a fraction of the cost.

The only advantange is as said they last longer a bit of a lazy option!

IMHO I would not fit iridium plugs to an I-DSI as it has two per cylinder anyway and they are reasonably easy to access,  unlike MK11 which needs to have parts of the plastic in front of wipers removed to change plugs, so it is worth paying for iridium because of longer life.

I fitted the BKR6EIX-11 Iridium plugs in my 1.4 CVT Jazz (06 plate). My father in law has exactly the same model (07 plate). So we tried accelerating from 0mph and we also tried accelerating from 30 and 50 mph. When using  super unleaded fuel, My Jazz is always faster than his, but we're talking about a small difference.

These plugs have done 20k miles now and they're still in good condition.

I bought them on ebay 8x plugs for £54.49

I hope this helps.
