Carbon Fibre wrap - PICS!
« on: March 24, 2016, 06:10:22 PM »
Won a 2m x 1.5m piece of adhesive carbon wrap yesterday on our local auction site for only $20 nzd... Now I'm wondering what to do with it, my silver switch covers on the doors are looking pretty average so I think they may be first. I also wouldnt mind getting the silver dash by the middle air vents wrapped as that silver is horrible and reflects on the windscreen on sunny days .

Will post pic's of whatever I end up doing..

Had a few minutes today so wrapped the window switches as they were in terrible condition.. think I'll need to fabric spray the door cards soon too...
Also added some wrap behind the from number plate, wifey thinks it all looks ok.

I love the look and texture of carbon fibre - my only concern on the dash would be what happens when the sun gets on it - hope it doesn't peel or bubble - otherwise what you have done so far looks great wouldn't mind it in my car.  Would be interesting to see what happens to dash reflecting in windscreen - have you noticed any improvement ?

I know people in hot countries used to put 'fake fur' or suede on top of their dash to stop sun splitting and fading the plastic (and also maybe to keep car cooler) and  external fixed 'venetian blinds' up the rear window to keep sun out,  plastics have improved a lot in recent years but maybe fur was a fashion statement as well and will continue.  When we lived in Oz if you left a thermometer in your parked car it could go over 60deg C - and steering wheel often too hot to touch without leaving doors and windows open for a while,  tinted windows may have made that better.

Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Hi, my main reason for doing it was that grey reflecting in the windscreen and its now gone! :-)

It seldom gets above 25 deg here and we are now heading into autumn so should be ok for a while, the car is never really left in hot temps for long anyway, maybe I'll get a sun screen thingy just in case.

I had wrapped my glovebox and that ended up peeling so hopefully if yours is applied well then it won't peel

Smooth or dimply plastic? I used a grease / oil remover spray on the plastic prior to applying and seems to have stuck well..

Question!
Since you took apart most of your centre dash I hope you know the answer.. You know the two lights that sit under the heater control pointing down on the cup holders, what bulbs are used? can they be converted to leds?? If you didn't check can you write a brief guide on how to take the whole thing apart?
