Jazz Mk1 auto gear selector seized

Hi all

My father-in-law's elderly Mk1 Jazz (2004) has been sitting unused for some months and the auto gear selector will only move with some difficulty. I suspect it's lack of lubrication on the selector pivot and/or cable. Does anyone know if this can be accessed from inside the car or does it need to go on a ramp? Or is it something else?

there is a slot on the housing put your ignition key in there and push down, remember foot on foot brake

Thanks Fisherman. The symptoms are different in that the Gear Selector will move but is incredibly stiff so I'm pretty sure that lack of lubrication is the issue. I want to get to the selector mechanism and cable ideally without crawling under the car! I wanted to know if it's possible from inside?

How long is it since the gearbox oil was changed? I used to drive an auto (torque converter) which was stiff to shift when cold. I changed the oil and stiffness of the selector disappeared.

Don't know I'm afraid. It's always been maintained by a Honda dealer and has only done about 35000 miles (in Jersey).
I still think the issue is caused by lack of use and will get to have a look at it later next week. Any other bright ideas gratefully received.

I would change the gearbox oil first. For cars used on short journey the maintenance schedule needs to be halved, so every 24k /2 years.
