Honda Warranty
« on: October 28, 2014, 06:38:52 PM »
Bought my used Jazz from a main dealer, for one main reason! The one year warranty. No real problems with the car, but it has a little rattle, as I had to travel a distance to find what I wanted, the dealer I bought it from isn't local, but as I was told I could use any Honda dealer in the country. I rang the one closest to my work, as I could leave it with them for the whole day if required.  No problems it's under warranty, but it could cost up to £70 for a diagnostic fee(one hour) for the time spent looking for the rattle. Rattles been what they are, difficult to find at the best of times, I could end up £70 worse off and them not being able to find it or they find it's lose piece of trim that just needs a little glue on it.  As the rattles a bit intermittent, I've decided to leave it for now.

Quite surprised by this,we bought my wife an MR2 secondhand from a Toyota dealer it had a rattle it took to goes to sort it but there was no charge.

Has anyone else had this sort of experience?

Had a similar experience when we bought my wifes first used Jazz GD a few years ago. Purchased from a main Honda dealer who was not local but had the car we wanted. We also liked the supposed reassurance of the one year Honda warranty but when we had a problem with the air con the local dealer wanted something like £60 "diagnostic fee" to identify the problem so we were disappointed to say the least when told of this.
Eventually had a local air con specialist sort it out for £40.
When we replaced the GD earlier this year with a GE we went to a local long established independant used car specialist as our experience with Honda and their "nationwide" warranty has put us off buying another from them.

I would also endorse the comments re Toyota dealers based on seven years experience with a Celica, always friendly and helpful AND they don't want money up front to identify problems. Honda would do well to copy their example.

If your Jazz had the rattle when you bought it then return the car to that dealer to fix, even if it occurred within 6 months then you are still covered see link here

Thanks olduser1, originally was going to go to the original dealer but it's an hour and  a half away, and i leave for Cornwall Monday so not the time, plus since booking it in locally, it's stopped, probably waiting for me to get half way to Cornwall before it starts again.  So decided not to throw away £70 for them to try and find something that's wrong but they can't hear.

Quite suprised Honda charge to have a basic look at something. Never mind.

Still reallly pleased with it. :)

Little concerned re comments on Honda warranty. Just collected a four year old Jazz 1.4 iVTEC EX I shift with a 2 year warranty. Comment by salesperson was  ANY thing you are not happy with come back and it will be fixed. Also told that I could use any of their branches which are over Devon and Cornwall. The car also came with 2 year free servicing which in the past has always meant oil etc extra. When I queried this told NO oil etc included but not consumables ( brake pads etc ).   Another sweetener was free MOT for all the time I owned the car. Given all that  I am a little surprised that a charge is made for anything under warranty, after all it's in the Dealers interest to sort the problem out and if they have to use a diagnostic tool to do it that's surely part of the warranty.
Perhaps I am a  little simplistic!!!!!!!!!

I wonder wether this is a bit of a rare case, as Honda will pay out for fixing something like a ABS unit, as it's fairly obvious what's wrong they replace it and charge Honda direct, where as a rattle could only be a bracket lose and there's nothing to charge for. Still a bit suprised but never mind.  Will probably have a look myself.

I had a number of issues with the dealer in Paignton / Newton Abbot over battery drain and a faulty boot lock allowing water incursion.
They were the dealer I paid for a three year topped up Honda Happiness warranty on my 2006 Honda Legend.
They were unable to isolate the fault.
After a service the central dash rattled.
A driver side rear view mirror dimmer / de icer had shorted and burned the mirror. I have observed this fault occur when steam generator washers are blasted at the mirror for too long during a pre-cleaning session prior to customer pick up. This fault was noted after the first service with the dealer I bought it from.

When I bought the car it had been left with its boot open on display for no one knows how long immediately next to a load of massive leylandii and a lot of tree fronds has mulched down in the lock. I used my keys to flick it out and the lock worked without needing to be slammed to stop it popping up, meaning the boot lights were switched off and the battery stopped draining. I solved the fault, not the dealer.

But forewarned is forearmed and I had enough warning to reconsider who I wanted dealing with my car. I took it to Hendy in Exeter after first having got advice from Honda's warrantee provider.

After a service with them, requiring a warranty claim to replace the rear view mirror, that Honda Happiness warranty is good any where for the right sort of fault. I would recommend calling the warrantee provider and getting informal advice as they hook up with the dealers after - so much can be settled with a two minute conversation.
Oh and they solved the rattle and are very nice people to deal with. So I bought a Honda Jazz from them and extended the warranty to 4 years. I wont be going back to that dealer in Paignton.
