poor brake performance

hello and happy new year,
just got my daughter a 2007 honda jazz for her first car. its been very well looked after , full service history and only 39000 miles . took her out today for a little drive and the brake performance is quite poor.
it did have new discs and pads on rear in 2024 and new caliper. being an older car , would it benifit a brake fluid change ? any advice welcome . thanks

Have you inspected the front discs, pads, fluid and any history?

To check there is no air in the brake lines or problem with the master cylinder.  Engine off, pump the brake pedal several times, the pedal should firm up with MUCH less travel.  ie. cannot push it down to the floor.

If there was an issue with the brakes, you would hope it would have been flagged up in last MoT?

fwiw, the brake pedal on my 57 Jazz is not as 'sensitive' as my new car.  I have to push the pedal further to slow down.  It's been like that even after fitting new discs, pads in 2021.  Brake fluid changed every 2-3 years.  Only done 21k miles, owned from new.


If in any doubt, recommend you get a second opinion from a garage.

Inspect the brake fluid and lines. With such a low mileage i kinda doubt that it was ever changed (the fluid). Should be nice and bright green/yellow, not muddy brown. With a proper brake fluid change the system will also get bled and any air bubbles will be pumped out. And also do the things the guy above me said
