Rear calipers
« on: October 16, 2024, 12:32:55 PM »
My 2 year old ebay specials have failed mot on handbrake despite the cleaning & greasing routine.
It's in for retest so see how it goes.
They were £80 and to be honest it looks like the os caliper isn't working as well as ns going by the marks on disc. So if they need replacing what else is out there for not stupid money?
Unfortunately I got rid of the originals when the ebay ones were fitted, as I would have sent them for refurb probably...
Thanks for any tips or links.

I don't know details of your car brakes,  but some rear calipers with handbrake mechanisms require the correct procedure to set them up.
Usually you slacken the cables off fully to ensure the park brake levers on the calipers are right back on the stops. Then use the footbrake a few times to get the calipers to self adjust. Then adjust the cables to just take up the slack but not lifting the levers off their stops.
If the levers don't sit back on the stops with the handbrake off you can potentially use up all the travel before the disc actually gets gripped

Thanks, I'll tell my mate who does the spannering. I did slacken the cable right off and hit the brakes a few times.
Car passed the retest, I tightened the cable up a bit too much to get it through & loosened it off a tad after lol.
Will still keep an eye out on new calipers.
