2005 Honda Jazz 1.4 i-DSI SE Sport 5dr
« on: August 31, 2024, 03:13:26 PM »
Hello Guys.
I'm Pablo. Brand new member.
I'm new driver and i'm keen to buy my first car which is an Honda Jazz.
Just been looking for prices and options. Majority of cars are around £1900 to £2600.

I founded this Honda Jazz Sport 2005 1.4  at £1495 in a trade agency, but i feel is kind of cheap compared with all the others cars companies.

As new driver and new person into cars, i would like to ask you for some advice, would it worth to see this Honda Jazz Sport 2005 for that price??? Sound too good deal for a 2nd hand car.
Please any advice will be much appreciate it.
Thank you all.

Pablo

its nearly 20 yrs old, so rust underneath is the first thing to look out for, check its  MOT history online before you do anything !! good luck

Our 2006  sport was recently hit at the back whilst stopped for pedestrians.
Offending driver admitted liability so no problem there.
Insurers wrote it off and offered £3200 compensation, much more than expected.
I had it repaired for £800 and insurers deducted 25% because I bought the salvage ie £800.
Therefore I have the car back with £2600  in the bank.
Point being valuations appear to be all over the place.  Our mileage was 82k since we bought it new.
I have sen this model around our year at various prices between £1500  = rough and £3500 =  low mileage like new.
Your potential vehicle is very much at the lower end of the scale so expect trouble either mechanical, electrical, or tin worm . Your seller, the trade agency,  has obviously bought the car in at a much lower price
and is making a profit So I would be very wary. If you go and view , Take an experienced person with you if you cannot , I would walk away.
Good luck and welcome to the dodgy world of 2nd hand cars.

I bought this model in late 2013, a 2005 1.4 SE Sport in black. It had 85,000 miles on it at the time, at 8 years old, so about average. I paid £3300 for it back then. Earlier this year it went to scrap with 145,000 miles on it, having being driven by both my sons and one of their partners. For the last 4 years of its life it was essentially being used as a van by my younger son for his tiling business. He’s not the most careful driver and it had a hard life, hence it ending up being trashed eventually.

On average I think I spent between £300 and £500 a year to keep this car on the road, with wear and tear, service and MOT and actual spontaneous repairs, which I don’t think is too bad, given the way it was used and that I’m no mechanic so everything was done using local garages.

I see similar aged Jazz cars all the time still looking in great condition, driven by careful, mostly older, drivers. The things to watch out for are…

- rust around the rear wheel arches
- water getting into the rear and pooling in the spare wheel well
- battery is very small and can often be 'upgraded' with a better model, eg Yuasa
- hatch door handle can stick
- the original catalytic converter is a theft magnet, containing expensive precious metals, but if stolen can be replaced easily. Worth checking to see what this car has underneath.
- audio equipment is ok but tricky to replace/upgrade, being a bespoke unit. CD player often sticks. If you’re a bit handy you can fit a Bluetooth connection round the back.

Mechanically they are a very sound car and cheap and easy to maintain.
