nearside cooling fan vibration when coming on
« on: July 21, 2022, 11:37:04 PM »
Hi, I went over a metallic speed-bump over the WE (in a supermarket car park); since then, when the nearside fan comes on, the steering wheel shakes and we can hear a rumbling noise.
Opened the bonnet, disconnected the nearside fan and the shaking goes away.

I am struggling to get a replacement part, since Honda only sells the bits separately, i.e. motor fan, blade and compartment; from the plans it isn't clear which one is nearside:

or

Finally the only spare part I could find is the air conditioner one:

Anyone had this problem before or any ideas what the problem could be?

A garage suggested replacing the entire Fan+Motor+Compartment unit, however I can only find the air conditioner fan, not the other one which is the radiator fan.

Thank you for your help,
Alex.

With everything switched off, check that a mounting hasn't sheared.

as Jocko suggested its most likely to be something broken or bent or loose  that  may  be repairable without replacing the whole unit  and may be obvious if you look closely.  It shouldnt take long to see if its something that can be bashed out, bolted up,or even fixed with cable ties,  or beyond repair such as a fan blade broken off.
If a customer is paying the bill  (and expecting guaranteed results,)  garages prefer to replace whole units  rather than spending time trying to repair it. That way the parts maker is held  liable for any further problem , rather than their 'bodge'.

Parts are usually described as left or right  where they differ.   Taken when sitting in the car looking forward.  If parts also differ between left and right hand drive  cars (such as headlights) it will also include lhd/rhd.

But in this case one fan is described as heater /Radiator  and the other as air conditioner -condenser.  All you need know is  which of the two its cooling.  .  No offence, but if,with some further investigation I still couldnt tell which is which I'd begin to doubt whether I should be doing the job myself.
That said the broken part probably has the original part number on it somewhere.
My IQ test came back negative

Post a photo of offending fan
I'll look at mine when I have time (it's beekeeping honey harvest time)

If it is anything like my Jazz the cooling fan seldom (if ever) comes on so I would agree it is likely the air con fan (not something my car has).
