I have a 2005 Mk1 Jazz, bought used in 2017, and I love it.
Days ago a brake caliper got "stuck" (it kept braking a bit, even after releasing the pedal), so my mechanic changed that brake caliper with a new one.
(the car is 20 years old and I seldom drive it, about 1000 Km every year, so maybe the caliper got oxidized)
But after I got my car back, I found the brake pedal travel is now way longer than before!
As far as I can remember, the pedal travel was always quite short (but maybe it became shorter with time, and I got used to it).
Mind you, it's not "mushy": when I push the pedal all way down, the braking is strong.
It's just that braking is now much more "progressive" than before, and the first centimeters of braking do practically nothing.
When asked, the mechanic said that the shorter travel before, was due to the somehow stuck caliper - but it sounds odd to me. It was that way for years, and braking was fine.
Could it be related to ABS? Maybe there's some air in the hydraulic fluid circuit?
And, above all, how long is the brake pedal travel in your Mk1 Jazz? Long or short?
(I mean: short might be 5-10 cm, long 15-20 cm | In inches: short 2-4", long 6-8")
This way I might know if mine is now normal or something is wrong.
Thanks to everybody!
