Odd noises from GD5

Hi all,
Recently I have been hearing odd noises occurring when I am driving my Jazz, they occur at any type of driving whether it be urban or motorway.

The first noise is a choppy, helicopter-like sound which occurs when accelerating from 0mph to anywhere between 30-40 mph, after switching to 5th gear it seems to get drowned out by road noise. I have looked online and a few people have said it could be an exhaust leak and I patched up any holes on the main body of the exhaust but the noise still occurs, the only place I haven't managed to look is the manifold as of the cover shrouding it and lack of tools at the time.

The second noise is what can only be described as a short intermittent squealing, the same type of sound a mouse would make or a pet if it had been trodden on accidentally. It seems to be occurring in the wheel areas of both front sides of the car.

The third noise happens when I brake and its the metal on metal screeching sound, I know I need to replace my brakes but I would like some advice on what to look for and what would need replacing, I am a novice but would like to have a go myself at replacing the brakes.

The combination of all three sounds makes my drives unpleasant and because they can be heard from outside the car it also makes my daily drives embarrassing .

I wouldn't waste time doing something/getting something done about your brakes. Instead of a set of pads you may well find by now that you need new discs. The squeak is probably the metal to metal of the worn brakes as well. The pads! always make some light contact with the discs and turning can cause this contact pressure to increase. At the first sign of noise from the brakes you must check them out, otherwise the repair bill (and risk to life and limb) goes up exponentially.
Helicopter noise I cannot help you with.

You appear to be driving round with an exhaust with holes in and faulty brakes, if you are a novice would it not have been a good idea to have someone that knows what they are doing check and service the vehicle before you are involved in an accident.

You need new brake pads so you may as well book your car in for the job, the garage will advise if the front disks need replacing as well - we can only guess.
You helicopter sound may be exhaust gas from one of the cylinders finding it's way out of a place it shouldn't; that could be via the manifold, the EGR gasket or even past a spark plug.  If you have a clean engine bay then you might see signs of this such as soot marks.

My advice is to book your car in for a service if it has not been done for a while and expect to have new brakes, brake fluid, oil, filters and plugs.
