Top mount movement
« on: April 24, 2015, 07:15:01 PM »
Hi guys.

I bought a 2006 Jazz, it has an advisory on the MOt of slight movement on the top mount on the driver's side. Anyone knows how much will it cost me to repair this? btw it makes a weird noise, coming from the wheel when I turn right, specially in roundabouts, something related with the problem referred above?
I also hear a metallic sound when I accelerate slowly, like a driveshaft related noise but I guess that the driveshaft is fine.

Go to an independent garage part is about £50 and an hours labour so around £100 ish.

You can also turn the top hats upside down so that they sit like "n" instead of "u".  the Macphearson struts are deign to "float" which means the move around in the tower, not something I liked so I ensured on my coil overs there was a locating ring round the insert into the tower as this made the handling more predictable and certainly no clunks.

BuddyClub coilovers on one and J's racing on my other Jazz

This was an advisory on the MOT from 5mths ago on the 2002 Jazz I've just bought for my daughter. I've checked it and you can easily feel the play when the wheel is jacked up but no noises when the weight is on the suspension.

I read there is the rubber mount and a bearing too. Is it usually just the rubber that needs doing?
