Climate control system swap?
« on: October 30, 2026, 07:05:31 AM »
Hey all,

just wondering, is it a straight forward swap if i were to order the dogital climate control display?

I have no idea what is happening internally, but curious if anyone has done any swap overs from the heating cooling system to the climate control system?

i’ve dropped an image with both. i have the top one.

has anyone successfully completed this job before? what did it involve?

It seems both units control the climate systems. I assume heating and aircon (compressor etc.) are exactly the same, but this display may not be the only thing you need to swap. E.g. the automatic one needs to have a sensor for interior temperature; not sure where that is located. And the manual one uses your muscle power to adjust the air flow, where the automatic one needs some form of electric motor.

So I do not think it is that simple. Maybe someone did this already and can elaborate.

Thanks for the reply. I mean, the current one isn't bad. I just think it lacks some auto features, like auto turning off the back glass heating element after a while. Or when activating the windshield demist, on my old car it also used to activate the ac, which is much more effective. Here on this, you first have to turn the dial, and in some cases wonder why it's not de-misting, until you realise you forgot to click AC.

not a big deal, but would be cool.

Agreed, we have the touch controls but much prefer the rotary controls.

Personally I have the A/C running constantly winter & summer. No chance of wondering why the screen isn't demisting, and it's a lot cheaper than having to have the A/C rebuilt because all the seals dried out and failed (been there, done that, on a previous car).

I'm not 100 % sure  but I doubt its straightforward.   Often the manual controls on standard air conditioning and heating are literally a physical  control knob to mechanical  controls. Turn the heat knob you are directly  turning a tap  to regulate how much  engine coolant is passing through a small radiator heat exchanger that heats the cabin air flow . You chose between  nil -cold through to maximum flow/heating.  Further regulated by you choosing a fan speed.

The air distribution switch may also be directly connected by rods, cables etc to simple  mechanical air flaps which divert the air down different pipes depending on your chosen priority , eg windscreen or feet or some air to both. By turning the knob you physically  move the flap. Again affected by your choice of fan speed.

Climate control uses a computer  and  various sensors such as cabin temperature, and even a sun intensity sensor to decide the optimum settings to achieve the  your chosen constant temperature, or prioritising defrosting mode etc  when required.   It does this automatically, using electrically powered valves.  Different parts and lots of it.  . Even if its possible it wont be easy  and not really worth it IMO.
