Wiper question.
« on: February 07, 2025, 09:14:26 PM »
I recently changed all my wiper blades, just over two years and 26k old.

I had noticed dry spots after using the screen wash (good quality, always 70% concentrate), especially the back, and driver side.

All clear on the rear and passenger now, but I am still seeing a small portion in the very bottom right side section of the drivers wiper. Ok when raining, but when road splashed and use screen wash it leaves a dry wipe. I really have to flood the screen wash to clear it. It was similar with the old wipers, so thought the new one would rectify it.

I am using the Valeo brand, of which all the reviews were good.

Is it possible that the screen washer jets are pointing in such a way that they don't spray the washer fluid onto the bottom right section of drivers wiper?

That side nozzle is clean and clear, and the nozzles are not adjustable anyway. I think it is more of a blade pressure problem.

Quite a few suggest clay bar the windscreen to remove any grease deposits

or, one of those kitchen plastic cube sponge scourers with some detergent
Let's be careful out there !

Could be a blade flexibility issue. Cold weather may not be helping.

Perhaps  remove the blade and warm it a bit in warm water.  (or pull away from the  screen and wrap it in warm soaked cloth. . Then flex its few times and see if there is any improvement.

This is just one of my mad cap ideas.  :-[   I have never tried it or heard of any success.

Valeo are a quality  leading brand and used as OE original equipment by some car manufacturers. But a few years ago when I was pondering blades  for my corsa  I did a bit of research.  I found that Bosch and I think Valeo  sell more than one grade of blade  rubber.  Their top of the range and a slightly more budget version, with various technology such as teflon coated, graphite coated, silicon etc. And a bit like aa and aaa batteries they all seem to have super duper names ,and some retailers only sell one version., Its  not always clear (excuse pun)whether you have bought the top of the range for that maker.

And of course each brand claim  their tecnology is better than a rivals.  I think I saw consumer reports  which came out in favour of Bosch, and others in favour of Valeo. :-\
My IQ test came back negative

You could try turning off the car while the wipers are wiping, to try to stop the wipers mid wipe. Then you could have a better chance to check if the wiper presses evenly against then windscreen.

Also the nozzles should be adjustable, but it requires making a special tool, like Yinmeout made on another thread: https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=14994.msg140335#msg140335

I posted a similar issue when I joined here recently and posed the question at the dealership. The mechanic was very helpful and showed me the following items which I have now ordered. The mechanic uses these when necessary without any problems
