Engine check code P0420
« on: September 05, 2019, 10:39:00 PM »
Hi, I have a 2002 Honda Jazz Sport. My cat converter was stolen in April this year, I had a new full system fitted including the Lambda sensors etc at great expense. I recently noticed a momentary hesitation after starting from cold whilst pulling away, after a few days of this, I got an engine check light. I have a diagnostic tool which is giving me a P0420 code telling me Bank one Lambna (Oxygen) sensor is not working properly. An online website also suggests the cat converter is not working....even though it and the sensors are new. Would a faulty EGR valve result in a problem with the cat or sensor?

Welcome Adrian. Check the connections to the Lambda sensor.

Jocko's right, it could well be a wiring issue.

P0420 is telling you that the readings from the sensors are too similar. It's possible that the cat has failed, but I would have thought it unlikely.

Do you have access to a obd tool which shows live data? Do you know what to look for from the O2 sensors at idle?
