Question about parcel shelf variations
« on: October 22, 2015, 02:53:57 PM »
Stupidly I left the parcel shelf on the roof of my car while loading it to the ceiling. Of course I drove off and it has disappeared.

Honda dealer quoted £206 for replacement, so searched through the breaker network on line, and eBay.

The only one I could find was £70 and has been delivered. Basically it fits, but seems to be slightly different in two respects:

1. It has flaps dropping down from the front edge that don't do anything or connect to anything. The lost one did not have these.

2. It is slightly tight on the trim on the sides so that it doesn't drop down flat when the tailgate is closed without a little push.

These make me think that there may be more than one variation.

The flaps are removable and I can live with the tightness (probably not connect the cords so it is always flat).

Anyone have any more info?

Thanks

The shelf you just purchased is out of MK2 Jazz, hence the flaps have press studs that fasten to rear seats so there's no gap in between seats & parcel shelf. For £70 i'd be happy and live with it. I wish I was there to see it your parcel shelf flying off the roof lol. ;D

Mine has the flaps. They fasten to the back of the rear seats with press studs filling the gap between seat back and front edge of the parcel shelf. Some models had back seats that would recline which is why the flaps were fitted to fill the gap when seat backs were upright.

Apologies for hijacking your post but...... while on the subject of parcel
Shelves

my parcel shelf has a 4 inch gap between the shelf and back seat.

I only noticed it when I tried to put it back in after it was taken out (not by me) .

is the gap normal?

That's what they mean with the flaps. The gap is normal and the cloth flaps fix to the back of the seats with press studs so that the gap is closed and you can put lightweight things on it like a jumper or jacket etc that you can reach from inside the car. Some later models, probably yours, have reclining rear seats which when reclined will close the gap.

just goes to show I'm must just put stuff in the boot and not even notice until someone mentions it.

I must say I never even noticed press studs.

And as for reclining seats, I'm gonna check tomorrow.

I've learnt such a lot from you guys since I've found this forum.

I had the flaps and press studs on my 58 reg Mk 2 but not on my 11 reg hybrid. The latter had the feature of slightly reclinable rear seats which might have been the official reason for leaving the flaps off but I think Honda has also had feedback that people found the press studs fiddly. The Mk 3 also has a flap-free shelf.

The gap between the shelf, and the seat back. Allows me to use my shopping retainer.......

(I had to temporarily remove the shelf, for clearer photo's).

This is how mine is....slightly reclinable, and no press studs.

I am going to remove the flaps and not hook up the strings.

Thanks everyone.

Mine has no press studs or flaps on the parcel shelf, I have to put the seat backs in the recline position if I don't want a slight gap.

I checked the boot this morning ( before I put the shopping bags in the back)

And there are NO flaps or press studs.

I haven't checked for reclining seats yet.

I will check the manual before I go fiddling around.

I will check the manual before I go fiddling around.

Use the little plastic lever on the top of the seat back (the one you use to fold them down).  When you push the seat back up,  the first stop will be in vertical position,  if you pull the lever again once the seat is vertical  the seat back will go back some more to another stop in the slightly reclined position.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Who needs a manual when I got you guys?

Thank you - mwah

My 2008 Mk 2 has the press-studs but no reclining seat-backs.  I found the press-studs fiddly and fitted Velcro strips, which work well and avoids the risk of twisting your back!

And the floor of the boot has a special place  ;D, it lifts up!  Yay!
