Door moulding strips
« on: October 03, 2017, 06:25:48 PM »
Hi.Had my 13 reg Jazz for 5 weeks now and im over the moon with it.
Its finished in "Urban Titanium Metalic" and luckily, the paintwork is totally umarked.
However,I realise that car park dings etc may start to appear over time.
Just wondering if any Jazz owner has purchased the black plastic door mouldings available and fitted themselves.
If so,is the double sided tape strong enough without the mouldings starting to "part company"with the doors?
I see they have them on Ebay for about £40

I have heard that the double sided tape versions do not take kindly to high pressure jet washes.

I would imagine not. Not a lot does!

When you say "double sided tape versions",are there other versions, maybe where you can use a special adhesive?

I put black plastic bump strips on all 4 of my new Jazzes.
They came via eBay from a place in Poland and had 2 strips of double sided tape fitted. Never had a problem with any of them!
But, I never used a pressure wash.

I've used 3M double sided tape for many applications on vehicles - never had a problem , look up your local stockist.

Hi.
I bought a new jazz ex in 2013 and purchased some black rubber door mouldings for all four doors ( i think through Amazon ) and had no problem with them although i never used a pressure washer on the car. Check that they come with self adhesive strip attached, this is usually good enough to be permanent. Measure and mark out where you want the the mouldings to fit, clean the panel with meths or white spirit to remove dirt or polish. Once applied l held mine in place with some 2 inch masking tape ovet the whole strip for a few hours. Do this on a dry warm day or inside garage if you can. I had car 3 and half years abd they were as good as new when l traded it in.

Yes I had them for five years, no problems. I also got the bumper ones too on each corner. I would suggest all rule applies. Make sure car is really clean and apply them on a nice dry day. Use masking tape to line everything up first. Take your time! It took me about an hour to apply the whole set. Every time I wash the car, I also use dashboard shine to apply on the mouldings to make them more shiny and black.

I have no idea if it applies to all self stick but by accident I came across the following when applying items using 3m double sided tape. Ensure a temperature of 18 c or above or use warm air to ensure the item is not cold.
It is imperative that all surfaces are spotlessly clean.

auntuneddy your spot on re the temp for having a good contact likewise for paint spraying a warm day with little breeze  but never spray in direct sunlight.
