Just Went from a 1.2 Jazz to 1.4 Jazz - What a Difference!
« on: September 08, 2016, 02:25:26 PM »
Used to have an 1.2Jazz for few years and covered LOTS of miles with no problems whatsoever with it.
Now left that in garage to sleep over winter and came to UK and bought myself a 1.4 Jazz

And I must say wow what a difference in the smoothness of the car, the 1.2 engine I had was just so week compared to this, although there's only few horse power difference between 2 there is a really noticable difference.
I can cost in cities doing 30mph in 5th gear without it strugling, I can go up really steep hills on motorway in 5th gear, with the 1.2car I had to downshift to 4th . In city its much more responsive and when going up hills at city speed limits I don't need to downshift to lower gear as well.
What a Shame that I used to drive 1.2 for so many years and didn't knew I should have went for 1.4

Btw mine now is from 2004 , 1owner car, 105k miles, has passed it's MOT's for the life of it every time first time with no advisories in any of them, and is close to rust free and came with 1year mot. Have driven it for 3weeks now and the only thing that it has required has been 1new lighbulb, How much did I got it for??
wait for it... £400 ,came with the sunroof as well  ;D Very pleased.

I found the 1.4 i-DSI     8 valve  twin spark plug engine more usable from low revs up to about 4.5K (where it runs out of breath) than the I-VTEC MKII which needs to be revved much more and is a bit pants below 2K.   I found it a better town car, and really not too bad on motorway because 70mph was just over 3000rpm.

My wife preferred the 8 valve because it suited her driving style ( thinks the engine will explode above 2000rpm) - never gets any performance out of the VTEC 1.4 and I have to take it for an 'Italian tune-up' every so often to keep the engine happy.

There are opinions on this forum that MKI  build quality was better than MKII as well.

Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Welcome to the forum.  I'd always wondered about the difference between a 1.2 & 1.4, because on paper they were so similar that it seemed daft to sell both.  Driving the Mk11 did not entice me to change either.  Sadly though I think you've just valued my car, had hoped it was at the higher end of 3 figures.

I bought my 53 Reg (Jan 04) with 94K for £800.
Just recently a friend sold his 77k 2003 SE Sport with every single optional extra for just over £1100 so 2002 Jazz with 100K on it will go for £500-£650 depending on condition.
