Headlamp bulbs - one or both?
« on: June 11, 2016, 11:27:55 PM »
The passenger side headlamp is dimming and the bulb needs replacing. Should I replace just the one or both? Car 8.5 yrs old, had it 5.5, this will be my first bulb change so probably first for the car
Thanks :)

Headlamp dimming? Could be a loose connection? Generally they either work or they don't meaning they need changing.

If both headlamps are the same age then if one goes out then generally the other will follow suit. But how soon is anybodies guess.

Personally I would change both if I knew they where the same age and one blew.

i would do both and keep the old one as a spare, only because it would bug me if i didn't if it was a different brightness from the old one lol

As noted above, dimming is more likely the result of a poor connection. Or it may be that dust has got into the headlight. These aspects need to be checked before the bulbs are replaced otherwise the new bulb(s) may also be dim.

If the lights are getting dirty then investing in brighter bulbs may be worthwhile (some of us do that anyway). These have the same power rating but have a slightly shorter life expectancy.

You're right, not dimming, gone completely. Forgot about the side lights! £25 for both bulbs and fitted, although the chap complained a bit about the Jazz being more of a challenge than most for such things!

There was a post on here a few days ago about how to change the headlamp bulbs. Apparently the easiest way is to remove the plastic liners in the wheel arches and replace them from the back. I guess that accounts for the relatively high price quoted, the bulbs themselves are only a few quid each trade.
