Boot floor collapsing into empty tyre well

I bought my 2005 Jazz a few months ago and didn't check for the spare tyre - it turns out there is none.  For various reasons I don't want a spare tyre anyway, but since I had a look for it, the boot floor keeps collapsing into the well and I can't seem to work out how to keep it fastened up - is there a knack?  I can see that putting a tyre in the well would solve the problem, but do I really want to make that spend and then carry that extra weight? 

Has anyone else had this experience and found a solution?  Thank you!

Surely a 2005 model originally had a spare, spacesaver, wheel when new and didn't have a repair and inflation kit.

If you don't want a spare wheel to fill the hole then it is easy to make a support up out of cheap timber from Homebase/B&Q. It only takes a square, flat bit of wood nailed/screwed to a support of the right length.

Thanks, Vic - I guess the spare space-saver went missing at some point before I bought the car...

I'll have a good look at the well and work out what kind of support I could rig up.  I was wondering about stuffing it with something light, like sponge wrapped in plastic, but covering the well with something rigid might be simpler.

It's odd though that the boot floor stayed up so well until the first time I meddled with it - I keep thinking I must have dislodged something that could be put back correctly, but I've not managed to work out what.

Perhaps it would be worthwhile trying some self-expanding foam from your local DIY store. That foam is low density but is firm when it sets. I would first line the well and surrounding area with cling film so that it is easy to remove any excess and also remove the whole lump of foam if you decide to put a spare wheel in there (you can probably find one from a scrapped car for a few £££).

if you go down the expanding foam route spray it into a bin bag
dampen the bin bag first as this help the foam expanded more
by having it in a bag you can then put the boot floor back in place
so the foam can mould itself to the shape of the under floor.

I like this better than the foam because you will still have a nice useable 'hidden' space in addition to boot, to keep stuff like foot pump and other bits

Although there is the option of carving a bed in the foam to hold any tools.
