Hi, anyone have any ideas on cost of getting an alarm fitted to my 2004 Jazz? And will/can  the control be located within my standard key fob?

checking around, seems my car may be fitted with a Thatcham category 2 immobiliser??? No record of this anywhere though. There is a central locking system applied via the key fob, so I'm assuming this is also the immobiliser? Not sure if there is any audible alarm being activated? Any help on this appreciated?

I doubt you will have an audible alarm unless fitted after sale. Immobiliser is a chip in the key. Central locking works through servos in the doors and via IR from fob to receiver.
You can get prices for fitting alarms from auto electricians, audio specialists, alarm specialists. If you are worried about taking and driving away, a visible 'crooklock' might be more cost effective for a car of your age?

Agreed. Most people just see them as an annoyance rather than anything else.

Dead locks? Check

Immobiliser? Check

No valuables on show? Check

Keys kept safe? Check

If you want to go further than that, get a tracker. Then if the little toe-rag nicks it, the police can find it.

I once drove some 10 urban miles with the alarm sounding. I can't now remember why it didn't turn off but no one seemed in the remotest bit bothered - except me.

dead right - I have seen cars on supermarket with alarm going off and people round it with the bonnet open and nobody bothers at all.

same with house alarms,  they go off round our estate all the time and nobody even looks any more - they just add to the general noise we have to suffer these days in the name of progress.

an alarm company was taken to court a few years ago for being 'pro-active' ie they went round estates breaking  windows in houses to make it look like there were villains about and then a week or so after they
went round selling alarm systems, they have also been known to put timers in the systems they fit so they stop working after a while and they get called out to fix them - money in the bank.

Well I'm pleased Honda fitted an alarm to my car, and I fitted one to my previous car. My house also has a burglar alarm.  If anyone attempts to break into my car or my house, at least the alarm will alert me, so I can get out my shotgun and shoot the bar stewards !

+1 for waste of time.

When I got my jazz I was a bit worried about lack of alarm. But I needn't have been.

Never known one to be any good, really easy to quieten within 15 seconds of getting in car.

As mentioned get a tracker you can get cheapo ebay ones for £40 I think. They work off GPS and simcard. They can be set to send GPS point out every 30 seconds. I read somewhere on a forum that it was literally about £3 a year in data cost or something on liberty simcard I think it was.
