Spare wheel
« on: September 17, 2015, 09:28:25 PM »
The car does not come with a spare wheel but a can of gunk instead. In fact there is not even a jack included- penny pinching and weight saving! The dealer quoted £200 for a space save spare, not sure if this includes a jack or not.

Does anyone know what size will fit. My EX has 16 wheels but I presume a 15 would do. I was looking at civic wheels but they seem to be five stud and the Jazz is four stud. Would a MK 2 jazz spare wheel fit?

My 2011 HS didn't have a spare, but I bought one off Ebay that was actually a Corsa steel wheel, which has the same diameters, however my wheels are 15".

the jack is right at the back behind the storage area below the boot latch

You beat me to it.
I was trying to describe where it was in my MK2
I can add that's in the space inside the rear bumper

50 mph Spare wheels from the old rover 25/45 series have 4 studs and are available cheaply unused from breakers' yards.  I have carried one in my GE Jazz for 6 years and never used it. It cost £15. I expect it would also fit the new model.

My dealer says that the spare wheel kit for the Mk3 is on back order and will not be available until November. In the meantime they are going to transfer the spare and tools from my Mk2 and modify the polystyrene underfloor boot box to fit over the spare whilst still supporting the boot floor. So it would seem that the Mk2 spare will fit.

Regarding the jack storage, in the Mk3 it is now stored in the polystyrene underfloor box as there is no longer a recess within the bumper area.

Only 5 hours until I get mine!

Hello. Enjoying following posts of fellow Jazz enthusiasts.
Hoping to take delivery of my new SE next week.
One the subject of spare wheels I was horified to see that my Mk2 did not include a spare wheel so I bought a " space saver " immediately.
It was important to me to know if the wheel would fit into the new model so when looking at it I asked if I could try my spare in the new car demo.
Lo and behold it fits fine, there is a little raised conical fitting to screw it into.Must remember to keep the screw when I do the change.
The polystyrene block won't fit with a wheel in there though.

Where did you get your MK2 space saver from and what size is it?

Thanks

Just been to take a look at it. It's never been used. Bought it from a usual tyre retailer.  They had to order it in for me. Cost around £70 as I recall,  that was in 2010.
On the tyre itself it reads. ...." Dunlop Space Miser MKIII. Temporary use only. Inflate to 420 KPA. ( 60 PSI ) "
Hope this helps.

Picked up my SE CVT this morning. As the boot floor has very little structural strength it is essential that it is properly supported from below as the supplied underfloor box cannot be used with a spare wheel in place. The proper space saver kit is apparently not yet available so Listers Honda adapted the solid foam tray/support unit from my Mk2 and they have done a pretty good job with it. It will easily last until the correct part becomes available.

That changes a lot of things.
I will have to take up the matter with my dealer.
Thank you for that information.

As a matter of interest. I have just been into Halfords, looked at the tyre repair/ inflator and the only one they had was for 17 inch or larger tyres. Check before you use, read the instructions, us men tend not to do that.

Just picked up a new 15" full size spare wheel plus jack from eBay. £115

I hope it fits under the boot floor if I take the polystyrene tray out. If the boot carpet then needs support from underneath I will cut a piece of plywood to fit.

I will let you know how I get on later when the wife gets back in the car.

Not the best solution but a solution. Take the foam tray out and a full size 15" wheel fits in the space under the boot. Place the tools around it and place some plywood to reinforce the floor for the boot carpet.

Job done and peace of mind.

The propper Honda solution will be better but more expensive when it is available.
