I have tried to live with the snatchy brakes on my 2010 1.4 EX I shift. Some days OK but others, they really play up. I am wondering if you chaps out there, sorry ladies as well, can offer some advice.
I did a post on Warranties and the front discs were replaced by the dealer after I made a fuss. The pads however were not. I can only assume that the pads are Honda. As it was so rightly pointed out brakes are consumables and so I cannot see how my changing the pads for another would affect my guarantee.
Here's the question. What pads to use? In the past on our previous cars I have used both Ferodo, Mintex and some from Europarts all gave very good braking with no fade and certainly no grab.
I recently came across some info which I cannot be sure of BUT Honda Jazz rear discs were quoted as the same fitment as a Rover 25?
? Some difference in price.
On a different tack, the handbrake. Looking at the Jazz rear brakes, exploded view, they APPEAR to be the same as my old Rover 45. Yes I know there probably are differences BUT the 45 was based on a Honda Civic. On every MOT the handbrake on the Rover was always excellent. The chap who does my MOT's said it was among the best. Looking at the 'pictures' the system appears to have the same set up, with a compensator and two cables. All the bits of the caliper appear to be the same. The pads appear to be identical ( Until I grovel underneath I cannot be sure) so why the difference? If the info re rear disc is accurate then the pads are probably the same OH for an expert comparison chart.
I logged onto a website of a Honda dealer who actually publishes the prices of spare parts. I compared a 2009 1.5 LSPO manual and a 2009 1.4 EX with I shift. fixing for the undertray different part nos BUT identical identification on the exploded view same job. The manual price was was £2.47 and the I shift was £3.22. Here's one to make your eyes water. The I shift change assembly referred to as the Bracket comp base The lump under the gear lever £948.10 Handbrake cable referred to as a wire parking brake £124.74 each side!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
