No more Jazz...

After only two years we had to sell our 2007 Jazz because of a problematic engine.
The engine allways made some noise when it was very cold outside but the noise got progressively worse. At first the dealer told us that there were no issues but later told us that it was pistonslap and that it was very common for i-DSI engines which have more then 100000km behind them.
In the end the noise became so irritating that it was even present with a warm engine.
We sold the car and bought a Toyota Auris.

What mileage/km did you have in that engine?

It had 150000km which shouldn't be a problem for a modern engine

I mean, I had VW petrol engines with more than that which ran perfectly.

I just hope the reviews of the Auris I have read are not true, 

sample words like 'sluggish' 'solid, heavy - but un-inspiring' 'uncomfortable drivers seat that will have you gripping steering wheel ' 'high CO2'  'bad fuel consumption' 'the 1.4 is outperformed by 1.4 Civic engine' and 'torsion beam rear suspension does handling no favours' 'badly affected by side winds' 'lack of storage spaces'  'muddled and confusing dash layout'  and 50 litres less boot space (seats up) than Jazz (Auris 350, Jazz 400), 'interior can't match versatility of Jazz' etc. etc.

Well until now the Auris has proved itself more comfortable and the valvematic engine is superb (132bhp/160Nm), the fully variable valvetiming with full variable lift on the intake valves has dropped the fuel consumption to around 7,5 l/100km which is more compared to the Jazz (6,8 l/100km) but the added power makes it for a car which is much more usable on longer distances.
The reviews you are referring to are for the pre-2010 facelift which has changed a lot of things. The seats are lightyears better then the seats of the Jazz we had.
The versatility of the Jazz is much better, that is true but when I look at how often the magic seats have been of use to us the counter still was at 0 after two years. The boot was indeed bigger 380 vs 350l but that again hasn't been of use to us.
I have been looking at a Civic but the lack of a rear windscreen wiper and the fact that my wife can't see out of the back because of the spoiler halfway up the rear windscreen made it sadly impossible for her to drive a Civic.

I can sympathise with you, my wife won't drive my Civic - although the door mirrors are superb and the spoiler is not as bad as it looks (it does keep headlights of following cars out of your interior mirror) I have had to fit rear parking sensors and she still won't drive it.  The 2011> (9th Gen) models have rear wiper but the styling is far too American for my liking - I bought the newest of the 8th generation I could find (12 months old), and when the salesman said - for what you are paying for this you could have a new one - I told him truthfully that the new car was ugly, both back and front
