Driver`s window power switch re-call impact
« on: October 10, 2013, 05:04:47 PM »
Hello I`ve received my letter about the recall for my 57 reg Jazz. I have noticed that the driver`s window doesn`t close as quickly as the passenger`s and it sounds really laboured. Hopefully it doesn`t get stuck before the parts arrive at the Honda garage.
Not only that the courtesy light has been disabled because it causes the central locking to "clunk".
Technical term  ;). Also I don`t have a warning sound if the lights are left on ! An automobile electrician has said I could get a buzzer fitted for the lights issue, but will have to do without the light as it affects the locking.
I can`t afford to have the fuse box fixed. Could all of this be connected to the door switch (recall )and the recent window switch recall ? I`ve had the car for 15 months so don`t know it`s history. Many thanks in advance for your help.

I had the same letter about our 58 Jazz and took it down to the dealer. We have had an occasional problem closing the window, where it starts to close then opens again, sometimes takes three or four attempts to get it shut.

Dealer explained that this is not the switch problem in the recall. Our problem, and I think possibly related to yours, is that the window is stiff in the guides, and in our case the safety mechanism cuts in because the sensor thinks it may trapping a hand or head.

The switch problem in the recall is about the switch not operating at all, so if your window is responding the switch, the switch is working.

The windows being stiff in the guides is a common problem and causes the safety system to operate.
It can be cured by opening the window,if it is reluctant to go down then start it opening and then help it.
Then spray WD40 into the guide rails and work the window up and down a couple of times.
This fix from a Honda dealer.

please remember that WD40 is not a lubricant,  it is a water dispersant (WD !)  it will lubricate for a short while,  in the meantime it is turning into a kind of tacky varnish that will both attract dirt and also stick things together.   use a dry silicon or PTFE based lubricant ( 'loob-brick-ant')  if you want to make the problem better in the long term.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

WD40 worked for me two years ago and the problem hasn't returned,it also works for a Honda dealer as well !!

Thanks for the replies folks.I hope the window keeps on working. As for the light problem it looks like I'll be in the dark again this winter or pay the £50 for buzzer.
