Security issue?
« on: September 07, 2013, 10:08:00 AM »
I have just purchased a new Honda Jazz Si (registered September 2013) and this model is fitted with both immobiliser and perimeter alarm (according to the 2013 brochure). However, trying out my key to gain access to the car on the driver's door, not using the remote, turning the key does not disengage the lock. I can only seem to open the car with the remote button. Also, according to the manual, even attempting to use the key on the door would set of the alarm (horn and indicators) but this does not happen. I assume this is a fault or is this not the case? The only other thing I can think of is that the electronic immobiliser deactivates the key rim door lock unless the battery dies? Any ideas please? ps On enquiring to the dealership today on the 'phone at first they thought it was intentional and then thought it was a fault. So a third opinion would be welcomed.

Turn the key twice.  This unlocks my (driver's) door and the light next to the radio goes out

No - sorry - it doesn't work. However, on page 145 of my 500 page manual under the door locks section there is a [boxed] warning thus: "NOTICE: Unlocking the driver's door with the key will cause the security system to alarm. Make sure you always unlock the doors and the tailgate with the remote transmitter." I think this issue was touched on in a previous thread concerning leaving a dog locked in the car? But in any case I have not heard any alarm on my car whilst attempting to open it with the key (in the driver's door lock).

I think UK Jazz are slightly different from the model we have which is South Africa/New Zealand.  I don't think our ones have an alarm, just the immobiliser and a chip in the ignition key.  There is certainly a transponder at the back of the ignition switch, I have seen the guys at the (locksmith) shop fiddling with them

There was a link once to Honda Jazz or Fit owner's manual.  See if you can find it.

Thanks Chris. I am going to contact my dealer and book it into the service department and see what they have to say. I will report back to the forum with the verdict.

I wonder if Honda have changed the arrangement for locking / alarming? My 2012 model ES behaves just the same using the key in the drivers door or with the remote. I can lock car and set the alarm with the key and then unlock with the remote and visa verca ( red light on rev counter flashes when locked / alarmed.

Oh dear! Sorry folks - just been to my dealer and guess what? The key worked as soon as the service receptionist tried it. The cause of the problem? Me being an idiot! Sorry to have wasted everyone's time. I shall try to restrict my future postings to real problems or comments!  :-[

The weird thing is that it really did seem like I couldn't engage/disengage the lock manually. This was almost exactly the same as the phenomenon at work I experience occasionally when I can't get our copier/printer to do something. My cleverer colleague comes over and just presses a button and, hey presto, it prints! Senior moments indeed! ;D

Just tried it out on my 2012 (November) Jazz ES fitted with perimeter alarm.
You can lock and set alarm either with key or remote.
However if you unlock with the key -which does unlock the car- the alarm sounds.
You then have to reset the alarm with the remote.
Or you can unlock and un-set (if that's the right word) alarm with the remote.
So if the battery in the remote goes you've had it !
