Security System Indicator
« on: August 18, 2013, 03:40:24 PM »
Hi all,

After three weeks of owning my Jazz ES I have just noticed the security system indicator when locking the car. The little red light flashes on the dashboard and continues to do so until I unlock again.  As this feature was not on my old Jazz I am a little confused.  I'm assuming the flashing red light means that the security system  is armed and will sound and flash if anyone attempts to break in.

Does anyone know if this is a permanent feature which cannot be turned off optionally?  I know.... why would I want to disarm it? well, I just want to know if I can, short of just unlocking the doors.  Any advice welcome.

I have the Jazz 1.4 EXT with satnav, I can switch off the red LED if I want to, it's only a visual deterent as the car isn't actually fitted with a factory alarm unit, only the immobiliser.

If it can be switched off, the instructions should be in the radio booklet I would think.

Thanks Paul.

I think we might be slightly at cross purposes.  The flashing light next to the radio is not the one I was looking for advice on.  The one that I am interested in is to the top left of the rev counter.  I know that it is alarmed as I have managed to set an alarm off with the horn sounding and flashing indicator lights.  Is this one you meant?

I had cause to speak to the Honda dealer on another issue and he has confirmed that the Security System Indicator is permanent and cannot be disarmed. It comes on as soon as your lock the car complete with alarm and remains on until it is unlocked.

Now I know!

Do all the GE's have an alarm as standard?
You've got me wondering now as I don't even know if mine has one.

I don't know the answer I'm afraid.  The owner's handbook on mine is, like most other handbooks, for more than one style/model. I guess the only way you can tell is to check the handbook for 'Security System Indicator' and see if you have the infamous flashing indicator on the dashboard.  If you don't then I guess you don't have it on your model.  Otherwise, it's a chat with the dealer if all else fails.
