Standard Engine Oil
« on: May 02, 2013, 06:34:06 PM »
Hi there,

bought a service kit for my 56 plate jazz sport. just wondering what is the suitable engine oil to service the car?

I got some Nissan 10w-40 oil left over and not sure that will fit or I need to get some castrol ones.

Thanks

I think you should use 5w40 oil which is fully synthetic,10w40 is semi synthetic which will cause damage to the engine

semi-synthetic won't cause any damage

does not matter which oil in uk climate:
http://www.hondafitjazz.com/manual/A00/HTML/97/SAA2E970000000K0081BAAT80.HTML
official recommendations:
Always use fuel-efficient is that says ‘‘API service SG, SH or SJ''
and figure 1 for viscosity

fully synthetic supposed to have longer life, does not matter as long as u stick to recommended schedule 12k miles or 6k miles if short runs, desert, etc

and there is no ford nissan or honda engine oil, it's marketing BS, they write something like "recommended by manufacturer"
multiple threads about engine oil on here, u can search for those
boils down to "I like this one" :)

have you tried what oil the dealers use to service? think its Castrol fully synth, you need fully synth for the idsi engine to benefit from better fuel economy and faster warm up

The recommended oil for the Jazz is Castrol 0W-30.

Have a look on their website for more info.

You can use either but the castrol edge is the best oil castrol make.

I personally use Castrol Edge 0W-30.

Fully synthetic oils extend the service life of an engine if changed regularly. Valve clearances, cylinder compression, peak power production and bearings all remain within specification for longer if a good quality fully synthetic oil is used.

IF you want the premium stuff, it comes with a price tag. Stuff like Amsoil isn't cheap, but when you change it you'll find it's cleaner than many other synthetic oils at the same service interval.

Quality oil + a new Honda Filter every 7.5k miles, increase to 10k if mainly M way.

Just grab some Castrol Edge 0W-30 and you should be fine.

Also comes in 0W-30 A5/B5 which is also ok to use.

Sorry,  but if your oil isn't getting dirty it isn't doing its job, the oil is there to lubricate and cool the engine,  but it is also there to mop up all the acid junk that petrol produces when it burns.  The actual oil doesn't wear out,  but the buffering additives (to neutralize the acids ) and viscosity modifiers do get used up.  That is why they like you you take the old oil to recycling, they just clean it up, put in some more more additives and the oil is good as new.

The Jazz engines are not super-sport highly stressed engines,  so save yourself some money and use Castrol Magnatec Ford A1 5W-30 fully synth,  or Mobil Super 3000 FE 5W-30 fully synth - If you want to do your engine a real favour spend the difference on a bottle of Molyslip engine additive - those little super slippery plates of molybdenum disulphide will plate up the bearing surfaces with a film that is tougher that any oil yet made (that's why it is called an extreme pressure lubricant, and is widely used in industry), and are there when the oil has drained away (much better for cold starts). The grease in the CV joints on vehicles is molybdenum disulphide based, which means those bearings can take a proper hammering and not wear out.

If you want the Honda gearbox to be even slicker than it is now, put some Molyslip in the gearbox as well - you will quickly feel the benefit.

And before you ask I don't work for Molyslip - but I am an engineer.
