Pagid Brakes

Hi all,

Just a quick question are the Pagid brake disc and pads any good for Jazz CVT front brakes?

Euro car parts sell them for £83.82 in total, How do they compare to the Honda OEM ones?

Which I found a genuine set of front brakes for £165, anyone have any experience on Pagids brake?

Local garage quoted £35 for fittings,

So Pagid ones will cost me £118 in total while the Genuine Honda ones @ £200

Opinions needed please.

I've not personally used Pagid discs, but they are a well known established brand. I first heard about Pagid in the motorsport world.

My GD1 has Delphi discs. These seem very good quality also. I gave my discs a good workout at Castle Combe race circuit with Ferodo DS2500 race pads.
They worked brilliantly, no warping or anything.
They should cost a little less than the Pagid discs. I paid just under £60 for my front discs and fitted them myself.

So I guess there isn't much need to pay the extra for Honda ones?

I was just a bit worried that the Pagid ones are lower quality than Honda original ones

btw anyone know what brands are the Honda original ones?

if you can avoid paying hondas prices then do so

You'll be fine using brands like Pagid or Delphi. Blueprint make decent replacement parts too.

Just avoid getting cheap discs/pads from eBay. I tried a set of EBC discs on my last car (Toyota Levin) and they initially warped quite badly. I had to get a massive amount of heat into them and let them cool off whilst driving to fix the issue.

I fitted new blueprint discs and pads to my GD late last year - car developed a horrible judder on braking - warped discs for sure - replaced them with Honda stuff and brakes are back as they should be, powerful but with good feel.

There are two types of disc  / brake pads commonly used -
 
Abrasive - where pad is hard / abrasive and disc is softer, (Honda use these on Jazz) - disc wears quite quickly but should last at least 60K with normal driving. 
and
Adhesive - where softer pad puts a uniform layer on the disc, the pad wears out more quickly than disc.

It is important that the disc and pad materials are matched up - best way is to buy Honda OEM parts.

Mine is juddering too when I brake from motorway speed, hence I'm looking to change the disc and pads.

But my CVT GD is only on about 43k at the moment, however I live in the city centre so to be fair a lot of city driving, and the fact that its an automatic meant front disc finish at 43k sounds about right?

The thing is over a year ago Kwik-fit said my front disc needs changing soon, after that it still passed it service and MOT with no warning notes about the brake disc.

A years gone by and its gone through another Service and MOT this month, again still no mention of worn brake disc.

All Service and MOT are done at the Swansway Honda Manchester.

But the judder when braking from motorway speed started about 3 months ago,

anyway I've booked it in Halford autocentre for a brake check to get another opinion on it.

No problems with Pagid brake, they are a well known & respect brand, I recently used that site to obtain Pagid disc's & pads for old Z3 
On the likes of kwikfit etc take what they say about needing new disc's with a pinch of salt, they are in the business of selling, use a reputable local garage who you can trust will give you an honest opinion, I recently used National Tyres to have my Jazz engine oil changed as they do an excellent oil/filter price using Castrol, upon collecting my car I was informed that they had given my car a free inspection & I needed my rear disc's & pads changed for only £146.00, I'll book it in for you next wed the man happily said before I could answer, really I said, please don't bother yourself, if I need the parts fitted I certinly won't be paying that much for them, paid my bill for the oil/filter & walked out.
You see the oil/filter offer is more or less a loss leader so they can get there grubby mitts on more of your hard earned cash with the fitter no doubt on decent bonuses the more parts they can use !

I have used Pagid discs and pads on my last car ( skoda octavia) and they were great even though I did drive it hard. They are an OE brand as are textar ( same group) and Ate. I used euro car parts as they do alot of pagid brakes and they deliver for free. Pagid has a good online part finder system so you can check you are ordering the correct part numbers for your car/ year etc.

Ill also second what Gapples says - certain fast fit places just want to sell parts/ jobs in any way they can I once had an interesting conversation with a fitter at a fast fit who was trying to get me to have various jobs done on a car while having a tyre replaced - untill he realised I did most of my own work and then he apologised and said the work didnt really need doing and that they were under pressure to sell a certain amount of parts / jobs each day.!!

Turns out the right brake disc has an uneven surface which caused the judder feel,

Both discs seems to be still okay for wear

Now I've got more time to explore my choices for the new brakes

does the anti squeal liquid comes with the pack or do I have to buy it separately ?
