Drivers seat seems way too high.. any mods, etc.. ?

Hi,
My wife has recently got a new Jazz.
After a week or so, she commented that the seat seems too high, and it won't go down any further.
She is not super tall, so I thought i'd take a look.

I sat in it, okay, the seat was already as low as it will go.  The rear view mirror is wacked right in front of my face.. hmm.. not good.. and yes, it does feel as though my head is scraping on the roof.

I can recline the seat some more, but that's not a great position..

I just discovered i can push the rear view mirror up a little that helps it bit..  but It still feels like a need a sunroof to stick my head out of to get a better view.

Does anyone have any other suggestions ?

Is there anything that could be done.. simple, or not so simple..

Maybe if they had done away with the mechanism that allows you to raise the seat.. yes raise!  then it could be a little lower.. i know there is other stuff under the seat area.. petrol tank maybe (can't remember) so, I guess it can't be made as low as 'normal'

I agree the seat is too high. I have had a quick look at lowering the seat and it will go lower but then you would have to take the head restaints out of the rear seats when folding down the seats.

Actually had a better look this evening and it isnt an easy job to lower as the inner rail near the rear is touching the floor. So the seat is as low as it will go. It is already on the floor.

I was hoping that I could cut and shut the uprights of the mounts, but unfortunatey this isnt possible.

The only way to get the seat lower would be to modify the actual seat. That would involve removing the upholstery and studying the structure and seeing how it would be possible to make the actual part you sit on lower without actually lowering the whole seat.

I would want to get a spare seat to try this but at the moment I am busy building a turbo manifold for my Minor so have other priorities.

I to feel that the seat is too high as I nearly always bash my head getting into the car.
I never had this problem on the 2 GD,s i have owned.
Also I did not have this problem on a demonstrater which had leather seats

Ah.. that may explain it.. our test drive Jazz had leather seats!  Bugga.

Just can't get a good driving position in our new Jazz..  very disappointing/upsetting..

Just had a look at ours. With the the seat in its lowest position I took a rough measurement. There is a raised bit of floor towards the rear of the door opening. At that point I can just get a finger between that and the plastic trim of the seat.
The seat also goes towards the rear as it is lowered.

Is it just that the roof is lower.
Trying not to bash my head when im getting in and out is difficult.
Im beginning to think that buying this GE CVT has been a mistake.
I know its bonkers but Im thinking of going back to a late GD CVT

I have one of the first batch of GEs and at 6ft tall I find there's plenty of headroom.

I changed to a Honda Jazz EX CVT last year, having driven 4x4s, for more years than I care to remember.

For me the opposite situation applied. I'm not exactly short, at 5'10, but I found the seating to be far lower than I was used to. The Driver's seat is raised to the maximum and is set back as far as it will go, whilst the seatback is reasonably upright, which for me is very comfortable.

I have also raised the passenger seat, by fitting 25mm spacers and longer fixing bolts.

I suppose it's a case of 'each to his own'

I'm 6'1" and have no seat height problems.

Could this be relevant? Human beings don't come off of a production line. We all vary. Some have relatively long legs, some have relatively short legs. So the torso of a tall long legged person could be shorter than that of shorter short legged person. And vise versa. And as the head is positioned on top of the torso...

Mine is a 2003 Jazz and I am approx 187cm tall and there is more head room in the Jazz than everyother car I have owned except a convertible! Plus I do not have the seat on the rear most adjustment.

However I still find the seat too high. I like to sit on the floor!

Also having long legs I could do with the steering wheel closer to me and the pedals adjusting so I can toe and heel. Though these modern motors are not as responsive as older cars. Must be the emission control or something.

I will try to tweak things once I have finished with other projects.
