Brake simulator PS vin series
« on: October 25, 2026, 07:08:52 AM »
Is there anyone here who has their VIN series number beginning with the PS variant, who has:

A) Had the simulator fail?

B) Had the replacement fitted?

C) Still driving with the OEM simulator?

I am now at 45,000 miles, had the 4th service in August and regularly checking the website for recalls.. but so far nothing.
I know the PS VIN is the 3rd in the possible series fault category, so I am curious to hear anyone elses experiences.

I did not even know about this. My car was delivered March 2026. It was a new car bought by an official Honda dealer in Belgium.

I filled in my VIN number on the Honda site for Belgium "Recall actions and updates" but says no recalls/updates for this vehicle. Since this issue was known since 2024 I guess they fixed it (?)

my PS vin, delivered Oct 2022, still has the OEM brake simulator.
The 4th yearly service was two weeks ago at 30153 km (18736 miles).
No recall listed on Honda.nl site or government site (rdw.nl).
So C) for me.

This time the brakefluid is renewed.
Some on this forum reported that trouble began after brakefluid change.
So let's wait and see....

If memory serves, I think my brake fluid was changed at the 3rd service.

4th service coming up, still on the original brake simulator even though my VIN number suggests it possibly could be faulty, but no sign of any recall.
I believe brake fluid was changed at the 3rd service.

I'm a VIN PS and never had a recall and have had the 4th service done. My E did have a recall and was done free of charge.

I presume that ,on a date and time  known only to Honda,  a car was the last one ever to come off the production line fitted with the old vulnerable simulator , with maybe the very next car, and all subsequent cars, having the improved version.
But did this  transition coincide exactly with a change in the vin number series  stamped into the  car bodies passing down the assembly line.  I doubt it.

Honda probably know from the production date which PS vin series cars are likely to have the old simulators, and those likely to have the new version and wont need to be recalled .   Is "'you're not on the list, you cant come in"  (for a recall)  a reliable indicator?

But I suspect there may be a period or periods  around that time when a shortage of the new version might have resulted in it being a bit of a lottery which type was fitted on the production line that day. .   I dont recall Honda ceasing production of the Jazz at any point, even when  for a while they must have known an improved simulator was being planned.
My IQ test came back negative

As I'm the one "responsible" for disclosing the vulnerable VIN - ranges (as described by Honda), I can only repeat that the damage only manifests itself over time (and has absolutely nothing to do with brake fluid changes! - it just happens, that the first brake fluid change seems to roughly coincide with the time needed for the corrosion to do its damage on affected vehicules!)

Furthermore, I do concur with Lord Voltermore's appraisal that probably Honda internally knew earlier about the problem and upon learning about it shifted to alternate models of the brake simulator during production even before the RS (aka facelift) VINs.

I was familiar with Japanese production methods and my experience was that everything was documented comprehensively and had to be for their "just in time" production methods, otherwise the cost savings of minimal stock would be completely wiped out by problems needing solutions and harming reputation once production was out of the door.
It is possible a future recall and swap was calculated as cheaper than a stop to production and consequent publicity harming sales further. It all depends on how soon the problem can be quantified, obviously a serious one that occurs after a period of time, that was not picked up in design original stress testing is most difficult.
No manufacturer want s a recall but unfortunately the pressure from management nowadays  to save cost does not help quality control, and this applies everywhere and price is no longer an indication that you are getting a quality product generally.

^adding to that Honda UK is not doing well financially, their sales have been shrinking (dramatically, I would say) in the last few years. Making me think an exit like Mitsubishi a few years ago might be in play. Their last offer with increased warranty may their last attempt to make people buy their cars.
