Map Update Warning
« on: September 17, 2026, 02:23:27 PM »
Every few days when I start the car I get a very loud warning, a bit like a door bell.  Nothing shows on the display to tell me what it is.  After Googling a few things I believed it to be a notification that a map update is available for the built in Garmin SatNav. However, going through the map update procedure I get a message that my maps are already up to date. So maybe the warning noise I get is for something else.  Does anyone have any ideas as what else it could be and how to disable it?

The only notification you should receive regarding Garmin, is a small 'folded map' type icon in the top right of the Garmin page.
This isn't very reliable though, as after going through the palaver of the USB/Garmin website shenanigans it will still sometimes say 'your Garmin is up to date'. Every now and then it will throw a curve ball.. and there will actually be an update.

When exactly do you hear this sound? Might be when you go from P to D passing R rapidly. Maybe a parking sensor could spot something, but time is too short for the display to change?

Totally unlike any other warning sound, a bit like an old fashioned telephone bell and very loud. It usually happens before I even shift out of Park.

Clutching at straws but do you have the fob in a tight trouser pocket

I know if a fob button gets pressed it can produce a sound but I don't remember it being a bell

My solution to that was to ensure my house keys were across the buttons side of the fob in my pocket
Let's be careful out there !

It does sound like the map update sound, if you quickly switch to navigation you may see a banner just disappear at the top of the screen.

I would not recommend updating maps at the moment. The currently available update is very broken.
