Damaged drivers door mirror - 2016 Jazz
« on: August 14, 2026, 05:38:39 PM »
The mirror of my daughter’s car was hit; it now no longer stays in place when driving (blown back by slipstream) and the power unfold function no longer works. Glass adjustment, power in-folding and heating seem ok

Dealer replacement cost is >>£400!

Having watched a YouTube instruction video I purchased a used replacement from a crashed car and fitted it only to find this also had defective folding AND mirror tilting (presumably damaged in accident if not before) AND does not stay in place i.e. worse than the original.

1. Does any one have experience of aftermarket new replacements and if so any supplier recommendations please?
2. Alternatively, has anyone tried repairing one of these mirror mechanisms? (YouTube videos show how to disassemble the unit and replacement cogs can be purchased via Amazon)

OR, given the factory replacement cost and hassle, should I just accept defeat, refit the original and leave the mirror bodged in position with duct tape?

Any guidance welcome 🙏

Interesting - thank you.
This looks to be an aftermarket imitation so the covers may not be interchangeable (preferably we would replace the met.blue cap to match the other side). But the price is very competitive!
Do you have experience of using this supplier?

Contact this person. Genuine parts so pricey, but worth an ask, they may point you to non genuine that may work as well.

No experience of this supplier. I read your post and just wanted to know if there was a cheaper way than £400 from a dealer. Years ago my daughters Civic had a damaged wing mirror, I used duct tape and it was still on it when she sold it years later LOL.

Personally I love dismantling   things and seeing how they work. I would completely dismantle one of the mirrors, either the original or the replacement, and try and figure out what has gone wrong.

I have never done it with a Jazz but have done so on other cars  (non self folding) and found the folding hinge  incorporates a sprung notch that holds the  mirror firm but springs out and allows it to fold in if you use enough manual force. This also acts as a safety device ,minimising injury to pedestrians or damage if you have an accidental mirror strike.  I dont know  but suspect that even an electric folding mirror will incorporate  this safety breakaway. But an electric folding  mirror might in the form of  a deliberate weakness in the winding motor gears etc. (maybe simple nylon cogs etc)

On one manual mirror I found that the part of the hinge with the catch has snapped  off completely following a strike and was beyond repair.     But who knows. Maybe with a bit of ingenuity and cannibalising  of parts you may be able to make one good mirror out of two faulty ones.  ;D

Or if all else fails, you may be able to recoup some of your costs by selling just the colour coded cover(s)  or risk buying  another used one in the wrong colour and swop covers.
My IQ test came back negative

Indeed - extensive duct tape is currently deployed and works, after a fashion. I could just accept this solution but it offends my OCD!

A good suggestion - I also like pulling things apart and fixing them - but doing this would require mirror removal for many days while dismantling and figuring out which parts to source. I wouldn’t be happy to have my daughter driving without a ‘blind spot’ door mirror for the likely time required to repair.

I am coming to the conclusion that the current duct tape fix may have to endure ☹️

I used them to replace the wing mirror cover on my 09 plate Jazz and it was a perfect colour match and fit
