Under bonnet.fuse/relay box label
« on: August 08, 2026, 04:27:22 PM »
Hi folks,
Not been here for a while and now have a 2018 SE Navi which has replaced our 2015 SE.  Aircon was working when bought but failed earlier this year.  Green light comes on but a/c compressor doesn't click in.  Apparently the relay for this is in the box between the battery and bulkhead and is known to fail.  It's supposed to have a pic inside with what each fuse and relay does but there ain't one.  Anybody have that label they can take a pic of so that I can eliminate electrical stuff before re-gassing if necessary? Apparently horn relay in same box is identical and can be swapped to check.

Separately, it has all the annoying quirks that the previous car had - parking sensors switching off randomly, stop start never worked but doesn't show battery symbol, just says 'auto stop start not available' and the tps system plays up regularly - especially when we swap drivers on a long trip - I'm heavier than my Wife!

Auto Stop Start may be Not Available due to a non stop/start battery being fitted.

That's interesting - our last Jazz would came up with the more normal temp/AC symbol in the winter but this message is, as I say 'Auto Start Stop not available'.  I've not checked which battery is fitted - I assumed it was the original but very happy that the S/S doesn't work!  So if others hate the system too, that might be a way around it??

Thanks for the reply - Still need a label though,

Ian

There is a fairly recent thread about battery condition and stop/start issues here

That could be a generic message

I've seen posts where if you have aircon running then stop/start is disabled to keep it running
Let's be careful out there !

Stop-start works perfectly well when the a/c is running … mine does, every time I drive it. However it doesn’t work if you have the ventilation set to demist the screen, and that’s when you get the message implying otherwise (stop/start symbol crossed out with an a/c symbol). I guess that’s because if you have a misted screen, you need both the engine and the a/c to keep running to provide warm dry air. It’s a misleading indication. Try directing the ventilation to face, feet, cabin, anywhere other than the screen.

I’ve never seen anything like “auto stop start not available” even when the battery was old. Where and how does this appear, what symbol shows on which display?

Regarding the original query about the fuse box, there is info and diagrams in the handbook (p565 et seq) about the fuses. Not sure this covers relays though.

Many thanks Colin,
I wish I'd never added the bit about stop start to my original query about the relays.  I'm happy the S/S is not working but was puzzled by the message being different from the one on our 2015 car.
I did trawl through the handbook, almost losing the will to live but no mention of relays - by that time I could have been 'man looking' of course.  I'll check again.

I've managed to get a pic of the display

......and by the way, the A/C is not working and NOT EVEN SWITCHED ON when that symbol appears!!

Their firmware programmers need to go back to producing kids video games!

None of this solves my relay query - has nobody got that sticker inside the fuse box?

I know this isn't a Jazz but there are 2 explanations here if you scroll down

At the risk of veering further off-piste, but in the hope of putting this to bed:
I've managed to get a pic of the display

......and by the way, the A/C is not working and NOT EVEN SWITCHED ON when that symbol appears!!

That is perfectly normal behaviour. As I said, the message about the a/c is misleading, it is nothing to do with the a/c therefore it doesn’t matter whether that system is switched on or not. It’s telling you that the start-stop isn’t working because the car thinks you’re trying to demist the screen (vent control is fully to the right in the screen position).

I’ve just tested this on a short journey in my car: vent set to screen, a/c switched off, and the Start-stop doesn’t work with the display showing the a/c symbol just like the lower part of your image. Switch the ventilation control to anywhere else (face, feet, etc), switch the a/c on, and the start-stop works.

The only difference I get from you is that I don’t get the text in the display, just the symbols. I guess this is either a change from my 2015 car (2016MY) to yours, or maybe there’s something in the various settings to change this.

There is no sticker inside that fuse/relay box. The fuses and relays are presented in user manual, and if the page numbering is same in different languages, they are in pages 575 and 576. However, there is no mention about A/C relay in that list. And A/C fuse is in the fuse box under the dashboard, number 14 or 24 depending on the layout.

Just out of interest I looked up that warning symbol in the 2016 Jazz manual and it reckons the same

Could it be that at the moment with outside temperatures being high that the difference between outside and inside is sufficient to trigger it ?

As an afterthought it might be worth checking the internal and external thermometers. Whether they can be seen via the engineering menu or the OBD port I don't know

Well yes, but that applies to cars with climate control; both Orcadian and I have the SE model, which has manual control of the A/C. The handbook is less clear about why those symbols might appear in an SE model. There is a tiny note on p.411 of the online handbook stating that the start-stop will not work if the fan is on and the vent control is turned to the screen demist position, but it isn't clear about what indication will show up: when I try it, I get the same misleading A/C indication that Orcadian gets. It's possible that that message will also show up for other non-optimal conditions, the handbok isn't clear. Anyway, both my A/C and S-S have been working fine in the very hot weather.

We have a 2012 Jazz. Our AC was playing up so I purchased a replacement relay, it was blowing warm but intermittently it blew cold.
The relay box on ours is at the front of the engine on the offside. A small box containing 3 relays. There was no relay sticker. It was quite difficult to get to. Two relays are side by side and the third one is at right angles to it. I changed the one at right angles.
I had watched a youtube video that indicated that this was the one. Not very scientific, but the AC appears to be working now.
I have watched so many Jazz videos and searched the internet and the AC relays seem to be in different locations for each model variation.

Paul,
Many thanks for actually answering the query about relays (which was in the title)  I wish I had never mentioned the other stuff in passing - as this is our second 3rd gen Jazz, I am familiar with the stop start foibles of temp and switch positions and actually chuffed that it doesn't work!
Yes, the relays are located in different places, not just from 1st and 2nd gen but even across 3rd gen variants and with no chart to help, I think ours is in the smaller box on the drivers side (UK model)
There are not so many in there, so I can remove one at a time and bench test each one.  Hopefully I'll find a duffer - but the fault could be in a software program which is preventing the air con clutch from engaging.  My diagnostic gear (Icarsoft) doesn't list air con faults on Honda.

On mine there are 3 big relays. I switched them around and it still didn't work.

Took it to a garage and discovered that the condenser radiator had a hole in it.
It is now replaced and I have fitted mesh to make it less prone to damage. He said they get loads of Honda's in as they put the condenser in such an exposed place, any little stones from the road can damage it very easily.

The same happened to my MK1 jazz too.
