Dog on back seat

Hi Guys, I Have just changed from a Mk2 to a Mk3 anyway what is recommended (you yourself use) for safe and kind restraint for a Cocker Spaniel travelling very short distances on the back seat.

Flip up one side of the Magic Seats and have him (or her) on the floor, secured on the leg of the other seat!

You can buy car harnesses. These will allow the seatbelt to be slotted through a strong loop. It also means the dog can move around without strangling itself.

I'm a bit confused. Is there a reason that a mk 3 requires different cocker spaniel restraints to whatever you used in  your mk2 ? (If any  )

I am not being entirely facetious.  I understand  the magic seats arrangement in the mk 4 differs from the  mk 3 so maybe the mk3 differs from the mk2  The rear head restraints are more intrusive.  This may, or may not, make them more cocker spaniel proof. 

I had a cocker spaniel many years ago.  She got very excited at first on every car journey until she settled down.   I think short journeys require as much safety restraint as long journeys, if not more.

Not much different the seats, but the change of car has come at the same time as my Father reaching that time of life when we need to say goodbye to his driving licence and his car is not a Jazz (VW Beetle V5) that I am now selling so I had hoped to find advice for our new circumstances of me now sometimes driving with a pet.

I flip up the back seat. Dog (large cockerpoo) wears a harness which clips into one of the ISO restraint clips.

Harness is the way to go and the dog can sit on the back seat. Just put a towel, blanket or small carpet under the dog to prevent nails scratching the upholstery.

I made a false floor for the back and keep the seats flipped up, two large Labs happily jump in the back.
