Replacement key fob
« on: July 06, 2026, 10:21:47 AM »
Has anyone had to buy a new key fob from either a third party "automotive locksmith" or from Honda, for their Mk 4 Jazz?

We seem to have lost one of our two keys -  the "main" one with the leather loop on it, though as far as I can see the fobs are the same.  It does the usual remote locking and arming and unlocking and has to be in the car in order to start it. It has the removable key blade that can also be used to open and lock the car.

I have been quoted "around £500" by the local dealer and £300 inc. VAT by an automotive locksmith for a replacement. I am wondering if the key provided by the automotive locksmith would have all the same functionality as the original or if there are any risks in going down that route.

I would check that the missing key is removed from the car’s system. You do not want your car to open or start when someone finds it.

That's a good point I hadn't thought of and I guess only Honda can do it. Taking it in for its service today, I'll ask them about that.  I feel it's going to be an expensive day...

I know on the Civics any new keyfob needed Honda to code it via their system

Some tried third parties but as mentioned, didn't have full compatibility
Let's be careful out there !
