Breaks screeching!
« on: June 26, 2026, 04:51:15 PM »
God my breaks are screeching. A few people have said it's probably the heat but this is embarrassing! Anyone experience this or have any suggestions?

Its probably the brake wear indicator
Take a wheel of and have a look.
New pads required

Thank you for your reply I've had a look and it does indeed sound like that. However I bad the breaks and the discs done last year.

Is it coming from just one wheel or two/all four? Is the noise continuous or intermittent? Random or just when you apply the brakes?

I'd say both front wheels mainly the right or maybe I can just hear the right more.

It's when I apply the breaks in the sound file that's me tapping the breaks lightly.

Bellow is a link to an MP3 of the sound

Yeah, that sounds a bit grindy!

I was wondering whether a pebble might have got caught between the pad and the disc, or whether a calliper might have seized, then the noise would probably only come from one wheel, and it might be persistent.

Heat and moisture can cause some rust growth on the surface of the pad, but this should grind off after you have driven for a little while. If the noise is persistent, I would probably get them checked. Maybe the callipers weren't properly adjusted when the pads were last replaced, and they have worn much faster than usual.

Do you notice anything odd about the discs themselves? Any scoring, rust buildup, etc.?

Thanks everyone for the replies. This has left me in a spot.
But we had the wheel off today the disc seems fine but the pads have worn. They're only a year old?
