Position Lights & Headlights indicators
« on: June 10, 2026, 05:36:11 PM »
Just curious whether anyone has seen this behaviour (maybe it's "normal"!)...
- daytime driving
- reasonable light level, open road
- Lights switch in Auto position
sometimes the Position Lights indicator (on the "Driver Information Display") is illuminated, sometimes it isn't (i.e. there are no Lights indications at all). Have absolutely no idea how/when this happens (am mainly concentrating on the road ahead!) - I've just happened to notice occasionally, when driving.
Similar issue with the "Main Beam" indicator - at times, when driving in shadow or light/shadow conditions, the indicator is illuminated, other times it isn't. (There are occasions when I can confirm that Main Beam is on, as I can see it reflected from the rear of the car in front.)
Not 100% certain, but I've also seen the High Beam indicator on, during (good, not driving in shadow) daytime driving. Again, "intermittent" in nature. I have no idea whether the Main Beam lights are actually in a High Beam state... I can override the indication, by switching the Lights switch to the Position Lights state, then back to Auto.
(I should add, Main Beam auto-switching at night, between dipped & high, seems to work just fine, and the indicator reflects the current state. It's just daytime stuff that's the issue.)

In summary, what's indicated in the Driver Information Display doesn't seem to always reflect reality.
Alternatively, I'm just crazy  :-[

The light sensor controlling the switching between your drl or main beam is on top of the dashboard. In case the sensor is (partly) covered, it might think you are driving at night. Switching between high and main beam is controlled by the camera near the rear view mirror; that seems to operate as it should.

Somewhere here I posted similar ages ago

I found that my dipped beam was still lit when all other applicable cars on the road were now on DRL. I found it slightly embarrasing and could imagine what drivers in front were thinking

My sensors were clean and not obstructed

I put it down to a badly calibrated sensor
Let's be careful out there !

I brought this up within weeks of buying the Jazz. The display does indeed switch itself off at some times, and gives no indication what the external lights are doing. I have no idea why, it does seem a bit odd... but according to my dealer it is normal.

The lights can come on as a result of the screen wipers operating. Manual p 192 refers.
