Screeching noise from wheels
« on: May 31, 2026, 03:21:42 PM »
I'm having an issue with a screeching noise on my Honda Jazz MK1 2004 for the past few months. Initially I thought it might be due to worn out front brake pads and discs but I changed these and am still getting it. I also cleaned out any dust in the axle area  with a metal brush and used brake cleaner spray when installing the new brake discs and pads.
Here is a link to an audio file of the noise
https://drive.google.com/file/d/126A5CWxISufDcU8dY9jT_Tq9q8HPqPJ5/view?usp=drivesdk

It usually occurs when I apply brakes whilst driving but occasionally does without applying brakes.
Any ideas what this could be?

You could try new brake fitting kit. The old ones might well be knackered.

Are the calipers getting warm/hot? Any brake dragging? Slider pins nice and free?

When is the screeching noise occurring?
eg. under braking, turning a corner?

Are you sure the noise is coming from front pads?

Did you apply some grease to the rear surface of the pads where there is metal to metal contact with floating caliper and piston?

Only thought is when you removed the old pads, were there any shims fitted to old pads?

fwiw, I've observed from google images, some 3rd party brake pads may have a thin metal shim bonded to the brake pad's thick metal backing plate.  Pagid and Brembos don't have such bonded shims.

I will try new brake fitting kit. That was next thing to try. Braking seems to be ok. Can't seem to find any issue when braking.

Screeching occurs when braking not necessarily when turning. Then after braking when I continue to drive it occasionally comes and goes. Does definitely seemt ot come from front. I'm going to apply grease as I hadn't done this.
Yes they had the metal backing plate but I removed this as they are so flimsy.
