Intermittent shake,rattle,noise
« on: May 20, 2026, 04:58:51 PM »
Hi  all, please can you have a listen to this video. You may need to turn it up.

When foot not on accelerator pedal there's a kind of rattle sound from the engine. Can hear it when idling but as soon as you press the pedal, however lightly, it stops. It's not a loud rattle, but its there. The sound is there as soon as this vid starts but you will see I gently touch the accelerator and it stops, coming back when I step off.

Someone suggested possible loose exhaust heat shield?

I've just had an MOT and this was picked up ...

"Central front exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases, joint blowing very slightly".

Does that tie in?

Aaaah, no, it's not the shield around the Cst at all. I took it to a garage, they removed the corroded metal and never bothered testing anything. After a while I realised that the rattle is still there. Went to another garage and they said the cat was rattling inside, needs replacing. Best place to get this done? I have no skills to be buying one on eBay and all that jazz, do need garage.
