Anyone had any problem with gearbox mount?
« on: May 18, 2026, 07:41:52 PM »
Manual 2018 Jazz 36k. Clunking when pulling away from stationary, coupled with rough change from 1st to 2nd and gearstick trying to jump out of first when changing 1st to 2nd quickly. Am I right thinking this is probably the gearbox mounting?

Does anyone know a rough price for replacement of this at main dealer or local independent? Have main dealer close by and a local garage I trust.

Have already changed gearbox oil with genuine Honda MTF and clutch fluid and didn’t solve it.

Thanks

I cant comment on whether the gearbox mount is the culprit.  .But it could be. And no idea as to cost.

I would have thought diagnosis and replacement would be well within the the  competence of an independent garage. They are likely to be significantly cheaper and may be more likely to check   whether its  needed free of charge.      Main dealers have a reputation of sometimes charging silly money just to open the bonnet or raise  the car on a lift.  :(
My IQ test came back negative

Honda want £160 just to check what it is, can’t find an independent garage to get it checked within the next two weeks.

I had the same issue with my Jazz that went on for a year,

I had to bring the car back to the dealership many times and they couldn’t spot the source of the issue.

They’ve tried all the possibilities until they’ve given up and offered to buy back my car.

Until I went for a MOT test and the car failed due to excessive flex observed on the engine.

Cut the story short, engine mounts replaced and the knocking noise was gone!

I saw a rubber insert that you can install on the Lower engine torque mount to help reduce the excessive engine flex when launching.

i had a creak when setting off and it was the engine/gearbox mount next to the battery and they fitted a new designed one with rubber inside  under warranty and it has been quiet for 8 years now

now mine was a rubber creak noise and yours is a clunk it could be the dog bone mount under the sump area but i think there are only three mounts as the third one is next to the fan belt

I've always had a bit of a shudder when pulling away in 1st or reversing on my 2018 Sport.

I've suspected an engine / gearbox mount being the culprit as it has been mentioned on the forum a few times.

Has anyone had this problem and resolved it ? if so which mount needed replacing ?
